I thought this, too, but I am not sure it's true. Hey Dave, is this fact? If so, what's the benefit of a 4s...the TQ?
this is because the 2 stroke makes power on every stroke and the 4 stoke makes power every other stroke...so in other words that is why the 4 stroke engine has to be twice as big as the 2 stroke engine

That is kind of close. The 4 stroke makes power on the power stroke. There are 4 strokes, intake, compression, power, exhaust. Hence the name 4 stroke. So it makes power every 4th stroke. Where a 2 stroke combines two of them and makes power every 2nd stroke hence the name 2 stroke. That is also why the 09 R1 is so bad as is because they have the power stroke on eack piston firing one after the other and continuing to put power down the whole time. forgive me foe butting in but I am at work hung over and bored.

Dave, post a bigger pic. I like what I can see of that sticker kit. Looks like you have some coin in that beast.
Couple shots out riding a few weeks ago: :flex:
And 1 of my 2 stroker:thumbup

The 09 YZ450 has 46.5 HP and the 09 YZ250 2 stroke has 45 HP. So horsepower is pretty much the same, but the 4 stroke has way more torque. The 2 stroke has more snap.
Two strokes concentrate their power in a more narrow RPM range....much peakier.

My old CRF 500 dyno'd at 64.9 HP (a trypical number for those bikes) and it was insane. Im talking digging a 4-6 inch trench in the dirt with the rear wheel through every gear while the font tire stayed off the ground for the most part. The R1 is the closest thing i can get to that feeling on the street and thats why i got one!

CR500's motors were the best for brute power. I had a few back in the day. My last 500 was a 93 KX500 that had an FMF built motor for Desert Racing and it threw down about 64HP to rear. I ran a TeraFlex rear tire once and it did some serious damage to the So Cal earth when racing Barstow to Vegas.

R-acer, how are you liking that seat?

I bought some ASV levers for my wifes LTZ400 and now I need some for my YZ, they are awesome!

Quick question for the 450F owners, what kind of range do you have with the stock tank? I am signed up for a 35 mile poker run week after next. I bought 3 1l fuel bottles to take with me just in case. But it sure would be nice to know if the 1.8 gallon tank will make it or not.

Fz1squid - Depending on the terrain you should be able to make the 35 miles on the stock tank. I still have the stocker on mine and I ride out in the So Cal deserts. I would recommend taking one 1 liter bottle with you just for piece of mind. A trick from back in the day, after filling with gas, put a piece of duct tape over the opening and screw the cap down over it. Helps seal and not leak fuel down your leg or in your backpack. :thumbup

Awesome, thanks. It's in the eastern Oregon high desert, so lots of speed. I've never ridden this area, but I've ridden areas near by. I bought 3 of the Burton 1 liter fuel bottles that are supposed to work really well. I might pack 2, just because I don't think the weight will be a huge issue.

I have heard some people get as much as 45 miles out of the stock tank. If I could find a yellow desert tank, I would mount it up.

Once you are out riding you will not feel the extra fuel. Just pack it so it does not bounce around.

Back in the days of my racing, I had a stock tank on my 89 KX250 and was on a fast and technical 45 mile loop. I was carrying a quart of gas with me just in case I needed it. Well it just happens, I am battling a guy in my class with about 3 miles left to go and I as pull up along side him down this wide open wash, we make a hard left up out of the wash. I grab a gear and just as I am passing him, the bike bogs and runs out of gas. I used the gas I was carrying and made it to the finish without catching the guy. My buddy had the same year KX500 and bought a desert tank and I took his stock tank and mounted it on my 250. The stock tank on the 500s were 2.6 gallons and that is all I needed to do 50 mile loops.

Check out Clark gas tanks, they claim to make a 2.6 gallon tank in yellow. I am not a fan of Clark, but it might work for you.

Oh and you want weight? I was pre-running mexico for the Baja 1000 in 91 and had a 3.3 gallon tank on my 92 KX250 and had 2 1 gallon preston bottles full of gas, one on each hip to pre-run a 140 mile section. That was some great weight in the begining.

Sorry to get off topic...

What is a CR500AF? Mine was a CR500R. Is this a new model or soemthing and what is the difference between this and the R? Just curious...ive been out of the dirt bike scene for a while.

I found a black Clarke 3.2 for $200 shipped 2 day FedEx. From what I read, the Clarke mounting locations aren't perfect, but once mounted, it's fine. Also supposed to not stick up too bad for a big tank.

Guess I'll find out this weekend when I get it mounted. Thanks again for the input.

They take a CR500 motor and trans plant it into the CRF250 bike. They are freaking monsters.
