Alright everyone I ordered the A&R race baffles about a week ago and they just came in but while I was waiting I began to do a little research on the problems people were having with these baffles. One of the main problems that makes me want to send these baffles back is the fact that they can make your bike run lean which is primarily demonstrated by the fact that on decel everyone says that the bike either begins to backfire or will pop like crazy. I have no money LSU tuition drains my every penny and that is why I am choosing to go the A&R race baffle route so that also means that I can not afford a PCIII or taking my bike to get it tuned. So what I am really looking for here is people to tell me whether or not their experience with this product has been positive or negative and why. Anyone that has had the race baffles for a long time now and they have experienced no problems like popping, low or crappy idle, weird smells, loss of low end or top end power, I would love to hear your responses because I have heard how these baffles sound and I have already taken off the cat on my bike so I know its gonna be the sound I am looking for. Someone help me decide
thanks
King

I ran my 06 with a rebaffle kit no PC3 to help out...your 05 pops on decel by design really....its the AIS ...it will be fine. I did 20K like that ZERO problems... it is freakin loud though.....I thought the poping on decel gave the bike allot of character....

I was under the impression that the popping was caused by cool air from the ais mixing with unburnt fuel in the exhaust (ie not lean) and given the combo of the heat fresh air and fuel you get pop. smog block off plates are around 30 bucks and supposedly cure the popping.

I have the a&r baffles in my 06 along with the power commander and ais block plates and factory pro velocity stacks and no complaints or problems here.

Btw my a&r baffles and stock pipe housings are 2.5 inches shorter the sound is fantastic.:rock

The popping is not that bad, and if you don't like it put the block off plates on for
$ 30.00. Other than that, the rivets they give you tend to come loose. I fixed that problem by using screws, nutplates, and loctite.
I really like the sound with the baffles, but it is a little on the loud side.

i actually love the popping on these.
i just made my own baffles tho so i figured if i dont like them im out lie 20 bux
i wrapped the pipes as well, and that improved the sound a little too

From my experiance and what I have been told... You should prolly invest in a pc even if the bike is stock. Any exhaust mod should create a "leaner" mixture, shouldnt it? To much air being pushed thru now that the pipes are opened up and not enough fuel? is that correct or not?

I have a set of Race Baffles on Mine. Made my own, better than A&R in the sense of rather than having to cut out the welds you just cut the whole can 3/4" shorter put in pipe made to fit length of can once cut, cut and install factory wrapping to fit pipe and your done. Sounds amazing!

As for PCIII, unless you are gutting out Cat or replacing with Y-Pipe it is not necessary.

No matter what slip on you chuck on, anything that really flows (like a race can, or the A&R's) will lean out your bike. It's as simple as that, and not related to A&R's alone. To get the most out of it, you should get a PC.

But they won't ruin your bike. Lots of guys on here run just the baffles and live to tell the tale. I've got them, and I love them. Cheap way to get some nice sound and a bit more flow.

dude put the baffles on, there is no real issue of them affecting all the things you stated, they are worth the bang for your buck until you can afford slip ons or a complete system, im totally satisfied with mine, they are loud and pop but im like most of the guys here i like that chit. but like txbitt said use screws and nut plates to secure the end caps because the rivets will vibrate loose

Its your bike but IMHO it will be fine. I've got an 06 with them, gutted cat and block-offs and it runs great. Bikes are sent out from the factory running rich, its safer. So leaning them out a little is not a big deal. With that said, if you want it dead nuts you've gotta get the PC, but I don't have one or plan on buying one unless I go to a full exhaust or change the stacks.
