I just spent about $100 on a integrated tail light as my old one broke when I got my bike. I got from a company called Hard racing performance who marketed this as just as good as OEM and all the same connectors. The major connection for the light in fact plugs right in but the length of the wires was not long enough to reach up near where this needs to connect. Also I assume this is the same as all others the blinkers are just two wires they did not take the time to spend another dollar to match the connection to the factory OEM connection.

I am returning this and am inclined to just say screw it and get a factory oem taillight and get a factory rear fender with the blinkers and make it look factory. Someone please help me and maybe tell me I just bought the wrong one. I hate dealing with electrical stuff and splicing wires.

Sorry to hear that you had a problem with this item. I have had nothing but good service, and products from hardracing. I am sure they will make this right for you, if they are in the wrong.

Most of us in this forum run aftermaket tailights, and we havent had too many issues with them

Good luck,

i have a Clear Alternatives Integrated tail light on my 06.
LED's with turn signals. I like it alot fits good wires are perfect length. paid about
$150 i think last year. check them out.

I had the exact same problem on my '02 R1, the wiring they supplied was to short and connectors for the turn signal was non-existent...:rant Poorly made item. It was 'the best' one supposedly, Clear Alternative, it had good lighting but the wiring sucked azz. Instead of sending it back all you need to do is just splice and extend it some and making the turn signals work is only a one wire ordeal per side....pretty easy if you ask me.

Hard Racing sources these tail lights from CA or other manufacturer. From time to time the manufacturer does make mistake by not meeting the spec's and ships a subpar product, i.e failure rate. I am sure if you contact Hardracing and explain the situation they will take care of you. They are site sponsor with great reputation and extremely high customer service and satisfaction.

I think I am going to go back to OEM. The only reason I went with this is that the bike already had some sort of one in it but it was cracked. The wires are a mess as I have a rig job with lights for the license place and just am not good at dealing with wires and splicing. I just might buy the rear fender kit with the blinkers and get an OEM light. I was just looking and have a question:

Look at this link:

http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/Alba/Yamaha_OEM/YamahaMC.asp?Type=13&A=408&B=45

I am trying to figure out where part 12 goes?

I am inclined to just return my current part

if you can't figure out how to install that tail light you should just give up and take it to a dealer and have them install a oem one. it looks bad for the company when you post something like this but in truth it comes down to you not able do something as simple as splicing wires together.

oh and your link doesn't work either

You don't have to be guru mechanic to figure out that the length of the connection does not reach the harness. I would not go to the dealership for anything other than to purchase a new bike.

Ok,
so you want me to cut the wires on the light to extend the connection so it can reach the wire harness? I just paid $100 for it and basically said it would plug in like the OEM one? If I wanted to make a home made one yes I would do this but I paid my money and want it to reach like it should. Is that too much to ask in an aftermarket part? Maybe you like to hack up stuff you buy with your hard earned dollars but I want something that works like it is suppose to.

Screw off DC original if no one commented on what they buy and experiences there would be no forum. Maybe you are OK with hacking up your bike and cutting OEM harnesses but I am not and you need to respect the people that have that mentality. I don't knock people that rig there bike to make things work just not my style.

Pick another posting to comment on that you may actually contribute to.

you have an 02 correct? do you know how many people installed these things? it has nothing to do with hacking on the bike. most of the time it looks better after altering things a little. just don't be so quick to bitch or complain about a good company and product

All aftermarket Tail Lights including Clear Alternatives, which IMO is the best one out there, have to be spliced.

It is so not very hard. You plug OEM into light splice 2 wires from light(Blue & Yellow probably) and 2 from OEM wiring, connect them together and your done.

:iamwithst. anybody can do it.

Agree 100%. Splicing a wire is basic knowledge every MAN should know. You cut it and you connect the wires. It's not exactly Rocket Science. :dundun:
