If you are want to paint your headers/exhaust for looks, then go for it. If you want to try to keep the heat off of you, go with the wrap. I've got my headers and exhaust ceramic coated. I didn't notice a difference with the heat. I am looking into wrapping it now. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have spent the money on ceramic coating.

ebay has some black wraps too.. just not sure how much to get - 50 feet , 100 feet? i have a high mount exhaust- i want to do from the headers to the exhaust. using 2 inch wrap.
for the 07, he said he used 75 feet. if its a single high mount exhaust I would think you would need between 50-60ft.

so i bought the wrap and paint and i am thinking about just doing the headers and putting on a car tail end curved pipe on the end of the headers and painting it black.. what do you guys think? a wanna be shorty. will it be way too loud and terrible sounding?

Good luck with that one. The tolerance of decibles is usually the inverse of ones age. :lol

I wouldn't want to be your neighbor.

it's ok for about a week or 2 but then it gets annoying. stick with the exhaust can shorten it if you can but dont go with the MCM style which is basically the turn down pipe youre thinking.

I also noticed that the exhaust wrap has a ton of cactus like material, very prickly. I think this is from being spray painted, very rough and harsh to the touch. When I rub it with my hand it starts to fall off. Is it important to give it a couple of coats of paint or on solid coat should be fine?

When I wrapped my OEM y-pipe, I did a few coats of sealer. All the sealer does is try to keep any moisture from entering the header wraps later on. Since I never ride in the rain, I can't say on how good or bad it works. The only thing I can say is that it will definately cut down on the heat from the pipes.
