jesus that's ridiculous!

sitting in the AC tonight, freaking 94 outside and humid as swamp ass, no thanks........
ridiculous is the price of the stealth bombers and what not, or the osprey but just think what you would do with 18 million, let alone 90 million. Which is just this one spot, nm all the other bases and larger fleets around the country. Mike do you by chance know the cost of one of our nuclear subs?

yeah its definetly a warm one out there, takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the ride when your just dieing of heat the whole time unfortunetaly, I bet a chill shirt similar to what nascar drivers wear would do well if we could figure out what to do with the required cooler and hoses

just wear a backpack for the cooler and run the hoses out your neck hole :lol

i'm fine temp wise till about 90ish as long as it's not crazy humid, i went out riding yesterday for about 30-40 miles and i was fine (was right about 90). today is just like hot death outside, no thanks. even the wind doesn't feel good.

Morning slackers. Been at the base since yesterday so time to head to the house. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Sounds like we just invented something that would sell.

yeah 90ish is about my limit as well, its not terrible unless like you said, you get the hot wind then its just miserable or when your stuck sitting at a light and are in direct sunlight

I need to start the whole working out thing again. It's just so hard once you get out of the habbit.
It's not bad. Just start getting active and build up over time. I've been relatively active my whole life aside from a couple of times. Most recently due to events well outside my control (health related).

Once I get past my last event for the season (marathon in October), I'm going to see if I can incorporate lifting back into the mix. Problem is, I'm already typically working out seven days a week for Triathlon training so I'm very short on time as it is.

Small lifestyle changes help out. Something as simple as riding your bicycle instead of driving to get groceries or to rent a movie really make a difference.

Exactly! I'm currently in the market for a used bicycle trailer like a Burley or similar for larger grocery shopping. I don't want to drop money on new as it's only going to be for cargo/groceries. I currently have a rack on the back of my bike and a small side bag which holds a paper bag. But, it's not quite enough at times and can be unbalanced on the heavier items.

Basically, if you travel less than three miles, you can go by bicycle. http://www.1world2wheels.org

The gym i go to is only two miles away, and fareway (grocery store) is right next to that. Because of going to the gym at least three times a week I am able to fit groceries each time into a back pack.

Have you thought about building your own? How much weight do you think it would need to carry?

Where we live, most everything is less than a mile for us. But, we go to the grocery store less often so the trips are a little bigger. On average, we're carrying out 3+ bags a time and usually there's also a gallon of milk.

I don't think I'd build my own just simply for lack of time. I could do it. But, I severely lack any free time to do it.

I don't think i could make one lighter then a burly anyway.

What bike are you using for your tri's? A good friend of mine started doing them this year, and I think I am going to join in on a few next year. I really am looking forward to the training. He is riding a soft ride now, I think i may go with trek or specialized.

Thats my isseu, growing up I was so active for so long that once I got hurt and it was all over, i went into relax mode and ive been in it for.....almost 5 years now. The bicyle is key, when I was younger all i had were bmx bikes so I need to go out and actually get a bike I can ride around but I just never do it. Lifestyle changes are definetaly the key to success. Ive never really been big on lifting though, i would wrather do something that will build muscle and burn fat at the same time, say perhaps ride some MX :fact

My townie/commuter is an old Schwinn LeTour that I bought back in 1990 or something. I used that for the first few months of training last year before I bought my current bike which is a Redline R70 (road bike).

I was hoping to replace that this year with a tri specific bike. Unfortunately, funds aren't there so I'm looking at one for next year. I'm looking at three different brands: Trek, Orbea, Scott

You can use a standard road bike. Many people do and get very good times on them. If you currently have one, that's what I'd use for the first few to see if you really want to do it or not.

Completely understandable. Just make a point to go to a bike shop and pick up a bike. Doesn't need to be expensive. Heck, you could even just go to a big box store and get one to get ya going.

If you want to ride MX, what about getting a mountain bike and riding trails? I'm sure there's plenty of stuff down there that you can do some trail riding on wth some decent hills. Relatively cheap unless you start dropping a lot of money on parts.

I was out for two years due to health reasons and know all about depression from not being able to work out and compete. Hell, rory can attest to that from the "Gym rat" thread. :lol
