Hello folks. I am in the process of purchasing a 2010 R1 and have been searching this forum for exhaust suggestions. I've landed on a few options including the Graves short exhaust (the one that exits at the bottom instead of under the tail) but I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how to clean up the undertail area left by eliminating the mufflers. I like the look of this short exhuast but not if I can't get a different undertail that cleans things up and gets rid of the shape intended to acommodate the undertail mufflers.

Any help/suggestions/links/pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance everyone - I can't wait to get my R1

Outstanding - that is exactly what I was looking for. Got your PM (thanks) and when the time is right and if I choose something like that Graves short exhaust, this will be the solution I use, maybe in Carbon if it becomes available.

Thanks a lot guys - I'm even more excited about this R1 purchase now - the question is do I get the blue or see if a Raven version is also available at the "leftover new stock" price.

Here are some photos of my undertail completed.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm interested in cleaning up the undertail on my 09 R1. I'm running with a low mount exhaust. I'm was just browsing for options to clean it up and I look what I'm seeing on this thread. I've seen the undertail from catalyst composites. Who makes the one posted here, and how easy is it to install?

It's not a huge deal with my bike but anything help.

Lacomoto offers c/f plugs that look sweet. I'd probably go that route instead replacing my whole under tail.

Thanks for the reply. I've considered the plugs, but they only cover the holes for the exhaust mounts, not the areas on the front of the undertail fairing. I'd pay more for it.

Lacomoto has been working on m1 replica body work for a long while now. Maybe if you bother them (too :lol :vanish) they might feel the pressure and see the demand for it as well. Couldn't hurt :dunno

Just some food for thought for you low mount chaps.........I've been messing about with this for a few weeks. Nothing that complicated except a sheet of 1mm polycarbonate to bridge the voids left by the under seat silencers. A can of expanding foam to give the voids some body. Plastic body filler to smooth over the joints and finally a sheet of vinyl carbon wrap.

I haven't a clue how it's all going to look. But having picked up a cheap under tray on ebay I thought it was worth a punt. I'll hopefully get it on soon and see the result.

Over here in the UK we used to have a kid's program called Blue Peter. They used to make all sorts of dubious stuff out of fairy liquid bottles and sticky back plastic.........had a lasting impression on me :)

Good job! I'd be interested in the final look, you might be on to something....one of the biggest problems with doing an undertail for the R1 running a low-mount exhaust is the subframe...if the subframe was designed differently It would be easier to design a more visually appealing undertail solution. Due to the expensiveness of running a race subframe or have a custom subframe/tail built, I'm switching back to the undertail exhaust. The low mount saves weight and changes the look but lets face it, this bike was designed, engineered and built to run the undertail exhaust.

Dude that'd exactly why I didn't go with the low mount. I was so sure to be purchasing the graves low mount until they announced the LINKS and I was sold.

Eh....R6 tail swap is a love it or hate it thing IMHO, I'm not knocking those that have gone that route and I'm all about customizing and trying new things but it isn't my thing....
