I was just wondering who started out with an R1 from the start. I was also wondering how hard was it to learn off of it and to get use to it. also did u guys/girls ever hit the floor b4 u ever got the hang of it. thank and Marry X-mas.
What road ? I see you're in Charlotte. I live in Mooresville.Fortunately the road we do our hot riding on has nearly perfect pavement. Definitely no tar snakes
What do you guys think about freshly laid pavement? It makes me nervous from past experiences with poor traction in cars. My buddy thinks fresh pavement provides the best traction. :dunno
I'd rather not give out the name of the road on the forum. Too many bikes brings cops. Not too long ago there were a lot of guys riding up there and pissing off the locals. Screaming by their houses, passing where it wasn't really safe, etc. They assigned 5 state troopers to patrol the road (about 15 mi) on weekends. Writing tickets for everything they could think of. They ran off most of the a$$hole bikers and the cops don't come around much anymore. We'd like to keep it that way. My buddy and I are thinking about forming a club with some of the regulars and setting some rules of etiquette and policing our own to make nice with the locals.
I think I now know where you're talking about. When I saw Charlotte I just wondered where or what part of this area you were talking about. I work uptown Charlotte but live up at the lake and have been in this area for 20 + years. It's in the TN mountains. I try to get up there once or twice a month.
That's...not completely out of the ordinary I'd think. Wonder how much power it makes now compared to when it was first made...i did. but ive ridden dirtbikes. mines an 04 and i think there might be something wrong with it. doesnt seem that fast. wont even pull up in second unless i clutch it.
well this isnt the R1 i started on, but this one now only has 8500 miles on it. i baby it pretty much. it just doesnt get crazyThat's...not completely out of the ordinary I'd think. Wonder how much power it makes now compared to when it was first made...
I bought my 2009 Yamaha R1 because I couldn't afford an MV AGUSTA. I had no riding experience, but I knew I wanted a head turning bike. I figured that there are millions of morons out there riding motorcycles and if they can do it, then a level headed guy like myself could. I did my research and learned that the bike I was getting could hold its own with any other bike on the planet. Some will convince you to start out on a less formidable bike, but you can kill yourself on the smallest of bikes. Practice restraint. Be smart about what your doing, and even smarter about what you're not doing and you're almost there. MSF course and practice should get you the rest of the way. I bought my bike May 24, 2011 and I've put 3,000 miles on her already. I love my bike and if an R1 is what you want get it and ride safely.

Keep trying to keep up with other riders and riding at 185 and here is your future :factI bought my 2009 Yamaha R1 because I couldn't afford an MV AGUSTA. :thumbupI bet that goes over his head.:lol
Just like his bike will.:fact
I can't find the link. Damn.
...says the guy that admittedly can't turn his bike. You preach "practice restraint" yet you try to keep up with others at 185mph. You are the last person to give advice. I originally thought you were a troll starting a new thread, another forum member perhaps - and this still may be true, but if so, the fact that you are now kicking off potentially life altering/ending advice to other young riders makes you far more than just a dumbass, you are in fact a douche.
