Fortunately the road we do our hot riding on has nearly perfect pavement. Definitely no tar snakes :)

What do you guys think about freshly laid pavement? It makes me nervous from past experiences with poor traction in cars. My buddy thinks fresh pavement provides the best traction. :dunno
What road ? I see you're in Charlotte. I live in Mooresville.

I like fresh pavement but not freshly painted lines of course.

It's in the TN mountains. I try to get up there once or twice a month.

I'd rather not give out the name of the road on the forum. Too many bikes brings cops. Not too long ago there were a lot of guys riding up there and pissing off the locals. Screaming by their houses, passing where it wasn't really safe, etc. They assigned 5 state troopers to patrol the road (about 15 mi) on weekends. Writing tickets for everything they could think of. They ran off most of the a$$hole bikers and the cops don't come around much anymore. We'd like to keep it that way. My buddy and I are thinking about forming a club with some of the regulars and setting some rules of etiquette and policing our own to make nice with the locals.

I think I now know where you're talking about. When I saw Charlotte I just wondered where or what part of this area you were talking about. I work uptown Charlotte but live up at the lake and have been in this area for 20 + years.

I haven't found any decent roads around here except for some back roads in the CLT side of Cabarrus county

Yep we've hit a few of those and some up around my way and a few over toward Gaston Co. Not great but decent for not being too far away from the house.

2009 R1 is my very first motorcycle!!!

I bought my 2009 Yamaha R1 because I couldn't afford an MV AGUSTA. I had no riding experience, but I knew I wanted a head turning bike. I figured that there are millions of morons out there riding motorcycles and if they can do it, then a level headed guy like myself could. I did my research and learned that the bike I was getting could hold its own with any other bike on the planet. Some will convince you to start out on a less formidable bike, but you can kill yourself on the smallest of bikes. Practice restraint. Be smart about what your doing, and even smarter about what you're not doing and you're almost there. MSF course and practice should get you the rest of the way. I bought my bike May 24, 2011 and I've put 3,000 miles on her already. I love my bike and if an R1 is what you want get it and ride safely.

...says the guy that admittedly can't turn his bike. You preach "practice restraint" yet you try to keep up with others at 185mph. You are the last person to give advice. I originally thought you were a troll starting a new thread, another forum member perhaps - and this still may be true, but if so, the fact that you are now kicking off potentially life altering/ending advice to other young riders makes you far more than just a dumbass, you are in fact a douche.

Are you Fvcken kidding me.
You have not even been riding for two months, and you're giving advice.
As Sabian said," the fact that you are now kicking off potentially life altering/ending advice to other young riders makes you far more than just a dumbass, you are in fact a douche".

You will get someone killed.
I've been riding for more than 20 years on the road, and more than 30 years on the dirt.
Let people that have riding experience give advice.
Go and do your 185 and get as far away as possible.:shake

I bought my 06 R1 last november, its my first sportbike, but i have rode, dirtbikes, Quads, and Cruisers before. It was too good of a deal to pass up and i know that thing is a beast but i just respect the power of it and ride whenever i can to get comfrontable on it. I have had alot of peeps tell me that it wasnt a good choice, but thats life, make good choices and bad choices. I went with my gut and think i have made a good choice and have not had a problem one with it...just my 2cnts...:dollar
