Hey guys. Firstly, sorry for the slow posting on this. Due to a number of reasons I just couldn't get this thread up any sooner...
Right, a couple of days ago I scored what is undoubtedly going to turn out to be an incredibly special part for me. It's the carbon section of a carbon swingarm made by the now shut down Dymag.
I know precious little about it, but what I do know for certain is it was one of the original prototypes, it's manufacture was started on Monday 1st April (huh, April Fools Day...) 2002. It has a serial number of 1614 although than in no way reflects it's numerical production info. I've heard various rumours about these swingarms, many of them more than likely Chinese whispers, but a reliable source told me they actually only ever sold 20. I've recently heard that these were sold at a loss, just an exercise in 'can we'.
It is bare pre-preg carbon, this section weighs 2.3kg (5lbs) and is reputedly much stiffer than the standard 'arm. Which incidentally weighs 5.5kg (12lbs) for my model, minus all it's spacers etc.
I got it for 180GBP (285USD) because of the obvious missing section. The seller was given it for use with a project that he never finished, by one of Dyamg's then management.
As and when I manage to obtain any pictures of a complete 'arm (I'll post what I have in a minute) it'll be obvious the exact part missing but of course it's the vital pivot and shock linkage mount.
I'm actually very pleased that this is missing as it gives me an opportunity to do some work on the 'arm. Those that know me will appreciate that I very rarely take the easy option when it comes to things on my bike and I like to adapt the unsuitable and make it mine.
So I intend to get the necessary front section, missing chain adjuster/wheel spacers and caliper bracket cnc machined. I have a complete spare standard swingarm to work from and will be using dimensions from that.

I really, really hopefully have some pics coming to me from a guy who literally yeterday sold his Dymag swingarm and he's very kindly agreed to take me some pictures when he removes it from his bike.

I have to either get to grips with or track down someone who is willing to take on and help me with the cnc work so I'll keep this thread updated with whatever happens during the project but hopefully I'll end up with an incredibly rare and in a large way one-off part. I'll post up a video clip as soon as I can which will hopefully give an idea of how light and 'fragile' feeling this 'arm is. The noise it makes when tapped is scary...
I've long dreamed of owning a Dymag carbon swingarm but pretty much gave up on the prospect as I never thought it would happen. I owe Ian, member Redgecko on here an incredible amount of thanks and respect for letting me know it was available and thinking of me. It would have passed me by otherwise...
