I've been riding sportsbikes since the late 80's, and I have made quite a few endurance replicas. GSXRs, a ZXRR and a Blade. I love endurance race bikes with a passion. They're my fetish.
I became an R1 nut in 2000, when I bought my first new R1. That lasted about 5 years until it ended badly, buried deep into the side of a car. But the seed was planted, and I couldn't stay away from Yamaha.
I bought my baby new in 06, brought it home and took the pillion pegs off and put a solo cowl on that day. Item number one off the list...
#1- No Wife Allowed.
I started slow...I found some GYTR slipons, cf tank panels, and an Ohlins damper second hand for a grand. The stickers were free with fast bikes magazine!, the compulsory tail tidy. And because insurance reps curl into a fetal ball when they hear my name....some GYTR crash posts.
Next up were braided lines, a Zero Grav screen, little odds and ends...but behind the scenes I was doing some serious deal making. BST wheels...an Ohlins superstock shock, revalved by Graves...Graves rearsets and bars...A GYTR CF clutch pivot guard rear hugger and CF heat shield...
An Akrapovic full race system, PC3, BMC filter & a dynotune took it from 152 to 159HP.
Some clear brake tubing, a homemade white tacho face, crg levers. I was working in a bike shop as a mechanic, and taking full advantage of the connections!
Then I stumbled across some Ohlins FG43 forks, with the SBK internal valve kit, for a stupid price s/h....
And that was the turning point really. I mean you can't have Ohlins forks and stock brakes, with BST wheels...can you?
This has been my inspiration since 05....
You can see where this is heading....:sneaky
