So I go to the dealer after work to buy some stuff...I wanted to see what brake pads they had and brake lines....

So I go to Yamaha dealer right by my house....

Me:" Do you guys have any brake lines for 99R1?"
Sales Guy:" No sorry...but I can order them for you..."
Me:"That's ok... I can order those too, how about brake pads?"
Sales Guy:" No we don't have those either...but I can order those for you..."
Me:" I can also order those.. do you have any frame sliders for 99 R1?"
Sales Guy:" No sorry we dont' have those..."
Me: (while looking at a big ass Yamaha banner right on top)" whats' with the Yamaha banner then? What do you have for Yamahas IN STOCK?!?!"
Him:" Oil and oil filters"

I mean common.. WTF! They dont' have SHIT on stock but they do have hundreds on little turn signals...

Then I went to the second dealer... same shit....

They have huge ass places but don't stock crap! WTF!

Yamaha Dealer in Philly is the same way!

I either buy from here, order myself, or head to another BIG Yamaha dealer in Md. or NY!

Voodoo

Forget them. Like you said order the parts yourself. Plus you'll
probably save money by doing it.

FOr the most part I think 90% of all dealers are basically like that... I usually now stick with the forum sponsors...and places like Street and Comp...which is a national distributer...but right up the road from me...

dealers are bump. they all suck roots.

Im going to try to avoid a dealer when i buy my next bike. I hate all dealers in my area. Never stock anything you actually want and if you order something its usually on backorder! Buy everything online.

Dealerships around here dont have jack in stock either.

yeah nice.. but how the hell can you order from Graves!!! They don't even have an order form!! WTF! I want some Performance Friction 95 pads!!

Chuck whats up with that!

IMO, by not stocking accessories, dealers can lower their overhead and maximize their profits. The big flaw to this has already been said: Why would I order something from a dealer (who'll turn around and order it from Parts Unlimited or Tucker Rocky, etc) for retail, when I can order it from an internet store who has it in stock for much less? They take advantage of those who don't know better than to source the parts they want on their own.

On the other side, I always look for what I want (pricing & availability) on the 'net first, then go to the dealer to see if they can come close to the price. If they can come close (depends on how close) I'll get it from them. Most dealers are more likely to 1)treat you better, 2) service your bike in a timely manner, and 3) give you better future deals, if you buy stuff from/through them. The reality of doing business with a business.

Hell, make them work for your money.......solicit their competitors for pricing and service. Especially with tires. There is so much markup included into tires (free mounting and balancing? YEAH RIGHT!) that you have to go with the best deal on that one. I once had the dealer tell me it was gonna cost $340 for a set of Dunlop 207's, with free mounting and balancing of course....... I asked about what the charge would be for the mount and balance if I bought the tires online and had them do the work. They told me $60 a wheel! I have seen these guys change tires before and it's usually 30min, 45min tops. That's one helluva hourly rate! ***Explanation: they have a "TOP OF THE LINE" balancer***:no The kicker is I could have gotten those tires then for $200 shipped and even with their outrageous service charge I would've saved $20!!!:fact

'ENUFF SAID.

I drove 300 miles to buy my bike from a larger dealership so now I get crap from the local dealer here (100 yards up the street). Whenever I go to purchase parts, I find the cheapest price on the internet, print out a price sheet, and take it up to the dealership, they usually meet or beat the price for me... good deal
