I made one just went to home depot and picked up a stainless steel cabinet hinge. Mounted it using a dremel and some bolts, re drilled the license plate and bam! Whenever I plan to do something stupid reach back and flip the plate up(self locking hinge) When I drive through town reach back and flip it down.
Cost: $2.35
Labor: 15 Minutes

Its small, looks good and works..... Enjoy!

Thanks for the idea. I kinda like that better because an electiric one could have probs. You may think its up when its not, being that you just hit a button or some switch. And there you are...BAM with a ticket mailed to your house wondering how. My neighbor had this thing where he would flicka switch and this plate would slide down over his tag...he got snapped thru a toll because it stopped working or somethin and it only slid half way an his plate wa still showing.
Give me somethin that I can control myself to ENSURE that its done.:D

I had a couple of people call my plates in when I do stupid things on the freeway. But once I did this fix no more "popo's" bothering me. Just like what you said with this hinge you know you have it up because its self locking.

my freind made one where he just lined a cable (like bicycle brake cable) from the back up to the bars where he just pulls the cable and the plate pulls up which is mounted on hinges. you can line the cable through the hole in the bottom where the wires come through for the turn signals. then just hide it the rest of the way up to the bars.

Has anybody bought the license plate kit from vfxkits.com? How does it flip up? Cause they're saying that you can flip it without risking falling off. Just wondering if anybody has tried it.

Thanks
