is it possible? a guy in denver that works at a bike shop called me and told me his shop got an 07 frame that had a scratch on it and yamaha sent them a new frame with the same vin. i have my cracked frame and title. is it possible to LEGALLY have the frame restamped with my vin?

I have no idea how much the frame costs. The labor would probably be the only price.I would guess 1/2 to one hour to stamp it. There labor rate is 60 dollars a half an hour I believe. I do not think you need to do anything special for the state as long as the bike was not totaled.

Why not just buy the new frame with title and new vin? Wouldn't that be easier since you would still have to tear the bike down either way?

things ive learnt, grind the old number off, get a thin piece of the same metal and essentially weld it on over the top "adding" I believe is the correct term, which removes the number grained into the metal which if x-rayed will show the old number, then press your new number.
if you dont want to add/weld onto the frame, put a solid piece of steel after grinding off your old number then heat it to cherry red while pressed against the 'erased number' to remove the old grain.

check your local laws, ive done it a few times and its not that involved here. but it is different in various states, just make sure whoever you talk to get a name and number so that you can reach them when someone else tells you no you cannot after you spend time and money.
