I got rid of my 05 for my 12, and I don't regret a single thing about it. :thumbup Truth be told, I personally think it's better in every way, but that's just my opinion. I'll admit, I used to think the nose of the 04-06 was cleaner, but the 12+ has got my vote now. :yesnod

Regardless, good luck and enjoy it. I honestly don't think you'll go wrong regardless of what you end up with brotha. :fact

Or Sista...:lol

It's only 110v, so a full charge takes 8 hours. Which is fine when you're just riding to work, out to dinner, etc. But it's not enough for a full day in Malibu...

I'm sticking with Shaq just fine for around town, but still need an R1 for long rides. Full reviews and pix (first impression linked in article) here: http://gas2.org/2013/05/13/first-long-distance-test-2013-zero-fx/
That was kind of my point. If you add up what you're spending to have the electric motorcycle (ownership) vs. the extra fuel you'd be using, you'd spend less just riding the R1 100% of the time.

And I fully hear you on most people don't need the range for most things. I agree. I'd have an electric car in the garage if it wasn't for the price or if a performance model could be had at a more normal price (Not Tesla $$$).

At this stage of the electric motor game they are more of a statement than cost savings pretty much any way you look at it.

I definitely say go with what you like, but as previous posters mentioned, they're still on the rise on efficiency and practicality. For most regions, unless you're doing short distance moving about with the plan on charging at home every day, electric anything isn't much of an option.

I own a couple of bikes now, and can say that I am happy with each, each serves a unique purpose for riding.

a little OT, but I had to ask... why are there no female riders around here? I need to move to CA....

Nice. :lol

Its not so bad going back, when you realize the grass wasn't greener...

Besides the Crossplane devotees that this forum attracts, most of the world seems to agree with your assessment. I know I do.

There's a new R1 coming out in 2014. I say sell your R1 now before the new one comes out. I certainly wouldn't predict it being worth more once the new model steals the show, so now might be a good time to get your money out of it.

Take the funds and buy yourself an 04-06 that you know and love. Put the rest in the bank. Be happy.

That's my $0.02.

RE: The electric bike...I think they're cool. Not as a replacement for an internal combustion bike, but for a whole different purpose. On the West Side it would be IDEAL. I never ride my R1 around here.
good to know re new model. I wonder if it'll be lighter/stronger/faster/better...

swing by Hollywood Electrics over on Fairfax for a test ride. They've got a whole fleet of Zeros available for test rides. Start with the 2013 S, ideally the one they call "Indigo", then try the FX, the one I bought. The upgraded S is the most powerful, but the FX is more fun, and cheaper. So it makes more sense as a commuter. Totally caught air on a particular hump on Glendale Ave I used to only wheelie over on my R1...

yep. California Girls. They don't write songs about us for nothin'. ;-)

And I don't care if it's more of a statement than cost savings. If we really just wanted to save money, we'd all be riding EX500's. :yuk:
