I just bought a Scotts damper. My question is, what are some good settings you guys have found on your dampers? I haven't installed it yet, so i don't know what works for me, but I'd like your opinions just so i have a general idea of what settings I should start around.

Also, the high speed damper control is said to be set 2 turns from max. Now, is that 2 half turns, or 2 full turns? Because, if you own the Scotts damper, you'll know what i mean when i say the high speed control looks like it's in the same position after half a turn.

You want to be able to turn at low speeds, at high speeds it doesnt matter sa much because the your movement on the handlebars isnt nearly as much as at 10mph. I usually set my Ohlins on 12 out of 16 for city and 14 out of 16 for stunting. The Scotts has more setting so adjust according. 70% is a good number :)

The best way to set one up is to set it all the way to soft... Then move the handlebars back and forth, then move the lever a click or two toward hard, move the bars again and see how it feels. Do this until you can feel the tension through the bars, then back off one click. Go ride and see if you have any headshake problems. If not you're good to go, if so then turn it 1 click at a time towards hard until it takes care of the headshake. Hope this helps.

Oh, just use the dial on the top, don't mess with the high speed damping on the sides..

DO NOT change the high speed damping valve from the factory position, on the top of the damper. Make your on-the-fly adjustments to the slow speed damping valve only, also on the top of the damper. The side adjustments screws are NOT high speed valves, they are the sweep adjustment screws. You can alter the sweep range of the damper, but you should leave them set so the damper works over the full arc.

well see, that's the problem. I bought this off someone. So I don't know if their high speed setting is on the factory position. How can I tell? Is the factory position 2 half turns from max, or 2 full turns from max?

Does anyone know?

I don't recall. My memory was that it was 1 1/2 turns out from full in, but I sent them an email to confirm what the correct answer is.

How many clicks does the slow speed adjustment have again???? I lost my manual.
It's in the neighborhood of 24 clicks. There is a positive stop at 3 full turns out, and therre are 8 clicks per turn. But at 20 or more clicks out, the damping is "off". Don't turn it too far, because there is an o-ring under the top plate that holds the base valve knob, and if you go too far counterclockwise, the 0-ring will come off, and you'll have to disassemble the damper to fix it.

Jak, I received this response from Scotts Performance:

The high speed on the dirt bike is at 1 1/2 turns out and the road bike is at 1 turn out. Please call me if you have any questions.

Thank you

I left mine set to factory (other than the one you adjust on the fly which I play with from time to time)...

Good. There really is no good reason to change the high speed valve from the factory setting, and doing so could be dangerous.
