Guys,
I got three questions...my bike is STOCK
1. I have the R1M model and it seems like I get a lot of road noise (not necessarily vibration) from the front end almost like the carbon transmits more noise from the pavement. Anyway, the front of the bike (fender?) seems to be loud? Is it just me or does someone else think this as well?

2. I noticed at low speeds in town, 30-50 km/hr, that the bike surges. I'm holding the throttle pretty consistent I think...I'm aware of being smooth. The bike really surges like I'm on and off the gas. I have tried different modes and actually think Power 3 mode is worst at surging. Power 2 doesn't seem as bad and I've never really tried 1. It seems once i turn the happy grip, I don't have surging at higher revs.

I know, Flash it, I'm just wondering if everyone else's bike is surging as well (not necessarily me being not smooth with the throttle).

3. Can you take off side panel for access to ECU without removing the entire left side of the fairing?

1: I too have the M and my doesnt make any rattle noise pertaining to any body panels.

2: The abrupt throttle output is a well known issue that fellow riders have also encountered. Only way to address this would be to reflash the ECU or possible PCV. Haven't read up on that many other riders using a power commander on their 15 R1

3: No. The panels overlay on top of each other.

Mine never surged till I had the flash done by SBU now between 5-6200 it's as bad as could be, also at 80 mph on the freeway turn the throttle and there's about a half a second delay.
My bike is going on the dyno next week, it will have to be re flashed too, I think that's the only way you'll get it spot on.

My M has a lot of road noise also. Seems like wind noise coming up from the cowl/fork area. I thought it was in my head but a friend of mine with a regular R1 said his makes the same noise. I haven't experienced your other concerns.

I guess maybe a better word or words to use about the noise coming from the front is echo or resonance sound. I have the stock exhaust so the bike is fairly quiet and it sounds like resonating noise...my guess was the tire on the pavement transmitting "vibes" to the carbon front fender. That was my guess. Hopefully that makes more sense than my earlier post.

Anyway, thanks for the replies.

I hate the surging. With a flash, PCV with auto tuner I still cannot eliminate the lower rpm surge. This is bad on lower speed turns where 1st or 2nd gear is needed especially constant transitions. The higher rpm surge seems to have gone away with the pcv.
