Anyone using bar risers? I've got to raise the bars a little as the weight on my wrists is killing me nowadays. Did a 700 km ride yesterday through the twisties and a lot of highway to get to and from.

My wrist was throbbing and my fingers were numb from the vibration.

I know Heli-Bars make a kit but a friend was mentioning Gorilla Bars?
Any opinions??

Also - the Throttle Meister is what everyone seems to use because of the bonus of incorporating the heavy bar-end weight, but is there another option? The TM seems a bit awkward to operate.

Cheers guys.

I had a TM on my GSXR, pretty easy to use. Twist it and set the throttle at the speed you want, twist it the opposite way and it releases the throttle. It's not set so tight you can't manually twist the throttle with the TM engaged.

Sounds like you need to learn how to use your legs more. The more you use your legs, to squeeze the tank, the less you have to use your arms & hands to hang on. Which in turn will lessen the fatigue and numbness you are feeling. :fact

yeah i ride up close to the tank in the twisty bits as i do a lot of the work with my legs and hips... when i'm cruising i'm midway back on the seat n' ready to squeeze that tank on a moments notice... i'm very very light on the controls and dont have a he-man grip on the stupid clip-ons either... in fact on the clutch im mostly just resting my hand n' only really grip when i'm shifting :yesnod

I looked into helibars, but i'd go with Apex clipons. A lot of adjust-ability and usually you can get 1" from what I've read with the stock cables and such. I am going to buy them as soon as I get the coin.
this!! :bow

i've got APEX 3 inch risers, still on their lowest settings about 3/4s of an inch higher than stock, but most people dont realize they are also longer clip ons which make your controls a fair bit wider than stock, I run stock cables for throttle and clutch yeah, not a single issue in fact the ASV clutch lever brings full adjustment right to the perch so you dont even have to tighten anything up down by the lever, so its got plenty of room for 1 inch rise easily probably more actually

they are 8 angle adjustable so you can make 'em very ergonomically correct no matter what your body or torso shape n' size..

so worth the coin i would not ride on stock clip ons... not a chance :no

i dont run bar end weights n' its generally smooth as butter... all i have is CRG arrow bar end mirrors on 'em :yesnod

I'm light on the clutch side but I do tend to grip too hard on the throttle. I'm only about 5'9" so my nuts are up against the tank pretty much all the time - when I shift my arse back I look like a jockey going down the final furlong...

Good info - thanks man

no worries yeah i highly recommend them...

I have Apex risers on my 2013 (I know you asked about 02/03) with no need for new cables or brake lines. The Apex kit kept me from selling the bike.

I also use both a Throttle Rocker and Throttle Meister.

Stock right Apex left.

Both Apex

Throttle Rocker and Throttle Meister

Cool - thanks for posting the pictures. It's great to get a visual of the actual height increase. How much of a rise do you think you got without changing cables etc?

Also - where did you get the ThrottleMeister from?

at lowest position the apex are about 3/4s of an inch higher than stockers, i run stock throttle and clutch cables, i can easily move 'em up to a full inch
or more above stock without issues i'm sure.. but at my height and torso & arm length i suspect I will not need more than an inch higher than stock...
hell they're practically there at 3/4s of an inch, its mostly for longer in-traffic jaunts where i find the extra height will be comfortable, so yeah i think you
would run out of need for more height quicker than running into trouble with cables and such

it really is cool to see the comparison between stockers and the apex though, thanks for the pics :thumbup

I'm not sure of the rise I have... I am at the max I can go without new cables... it can go more than the pics, I just didn't need too. The rise you see in the pics is pretty dramatic though. Where I have them set sits you up a lot and takes ALL the weight off your wrists.

The ThrottleMeister can be purchased here.

Love your bike and setup. Do you find being more up right the wind hits you in the chest and under the helmet?

I have Heli bars and they made a world of a difference. My issue is now wind at freeway speeds.

I got some never used apex clipons on ebay and just installed them. Definitely worth the price! I have the corsa windshield and it seems I get more wind to the face than I used to. However the riding position is much more comfortable.
