I'm in the process of choosing another bike..and got a few recommendations for Aprilia. I really no nothing about them besides looking over their website so far. I also have not seen many them on the roads around here. Anyone?

They look, sound and ride great. They mix the look of the jap bikes with the exotiic look of the italian bikes and it looks perfect. The swingarms look awesome and they should be higher priced than ducatis but their not. Go sit on one and I gaurantee youll be buyin that bike.

Unlike Jwcs, I've never driven, or sat on one, but what I've hear that they're like Ducatis. Which means they tend to be finicky, or they're in the shop more than you ride them..... That's what I've heard so don't beat me up....

I have a 2001 Aprilia MilleR and i can only recommend you one.
It's just great. Lots of torque, great handling, and i have never had a problem with it. Low and cheap maintaince compared to a Duc.
Get an Aprilia and you be a happy man.
But first, be sure you like v-twins.
BTW get the new Rsv Factory if you can afford it.

I've just traded in my 2000MY R1 for a 2004 Mille.
The handling is just a million miles better than my R1.
The brakes are 50% more powerful.
They are overgeared as standard, so a lot of people are putting a 2 tooth bigger rear sprocket on.
The fuelling is a bit wobbly between 3 and 4k rpm to get around the noise and emissions regs, but the dealer can activate the race map in the ECU which totally sorts all that in 5 minutes.
With a set of fruity can fitted you'll be riding around with wood in your pants.

Yeah, they all came overgeared, but why don't you put a 16 front sprockedt intead?
It's the cheapest and most benefic mod you can do.

Never riden one...I reckon they look cool though.. In regards to Duc's,would still LOVE a 996/998..but heard that repairs, servicing,or anything going wrong with them cost's mega $$$$$.
The repairs haven't been all that bad ony my Duc. No more expensive than any other bike I've owned. The p[rices of the OEM parts seem to have droppped quite a bit since the late 90's on them,.

Aftermarket: I swear you could build an entire bike out of aftermarket Ducati parts that are available. There's carbon fiber frames, swingarms, body panels - everything you can think of. Again, the prices seem to have dropped a lot recently.

My best friend has a Mille R, a 2002 model. Loves it with the exception of it being a lot larger, physically, than the 916 he traded in for it. He's a small guy - about 5' 8" - and the Mille is a large, wide bike for him compared to his old 916.

But the '04 Mille R is said to be smaller, thinner and more Ducati like. So that 'll solve the largeness problem if you're of a smaller body type.

I'm 6' 1" and a svelte 230 lbs.. My Ducati feels like I'm riding a pocket bike at times. I could almost stand flat footed and have the bike slid out from underneath me. Very narrow as well. Feels as if your knees ate touching each other when you get on it after a Jap bike.

Piccie of the Le Duc...

MilleR-R1, very up-to-date avatar ! :lol

I think the Mille would be an awesome choice if you can afford it... Certainly something rare and exotic about them... Personally, I'll stick with I-4 Jap bikes because although a dime a dozen, they by far offer the best performance for your $$...

Aprilia are def. fun bikes no doubt. I had a 2000.5 model mille standard for the majority of this year. I had all inline 4's previously and the twin just did not satisfy me like the power of a liter bike. I got my 03 and I haven't missed the mille at all. They are great bikes and I don't have anything bad to say about them. If I could have two bikes then I would have kept my mille. I think though that my R1 is much more comfortable than my aprilia was though. Maint. wise their service intervals are every 9,250 miles for valve adj.'s etc. I changed the oil every 2k though. I put about 4,000 miles on it and did enjoy it. I only had a valve cover gasket leak and they are famous for puking air into the airbox if ridden hard. Of course the powerband is completely different going to a twin. The gearing change is def. a good idea. I never got around to doing it but I imagine it would have been a good idea. Check out www.apriliaforum.com, there are a bunch of great knowledgeable guys over there that will assist you in whatever you need. You can plan on power wise to be getting about 125-130 hp at best out of a new one at the rear wheel. Probably won't even achieve that without exhaust and a chip. I watched a milleR 00.5 model on a dyno back in the fall only put out about 103 hp with exhaust and chip. If you got the money you can build them and get up to the 140 range but it is going to cost you well over 3k to do so. I can't say much about ducatis I rode my bud's 99 996 and I hated it but that was just my opinion. Hand's down the aprilia's are more comfortable and to me handle better than the ducatis. But again that is only my opinion. If I am going to italian it will be aprilia all the way. But for now the R1 is the only bike I can think of owning, that is of course if I can only have one....LOL One more thing to think about is resale. You go drop 17k on a new one plan on taking a good 5-7k hit if you go to sell it in a year. Good luck, Frank
Here is a pic of my two bikes until the aprilia had to go!

Ive got my dads 03 Mille in my garage right now up here at school. I ride a 600RR. What kind of bike do you have now? Are you looking to pose, race, speed excessively or what?

Powerwise, they could be a hell of a lot better. If you are looking for R1 power, you arent goign to find it in the Mille. I dont know about the 04 though. The 600RR is just as fast as the mille if not faster. When I ride the Mille around, I get a hell of a lot more attention than when I am on the RR. It is a very comfortable bike and the clutch and gearbox on it are sweet. It is a vtwin so there is excessive vibration and the throttle is no where as smooth as my Honda, but I guess thats where the fun is when you have a vtwin. Sound wise, it sounds awesome! My dad put a factory ti race can on it and I purrs nice and loud.

It all just depends on what you want to do with the bike. If you are coming from a liter street bike to an Aprilia, you might be disappointed with the power, but if you are planning on going to the track and want to risk binning a beautiful bike, go for it.

Thats all for now. Here's a link to a vid so you can hear the pipe. http://www.r1-forum.com/gallery/data/513/4678MVI_3296.AVI

Here is a pic of my squidly father on the way home from after getting the pipe. lol

I like the looks, styling of them. I used to work 1/2 mile away from a shop that sold Ducati and Aprillia, and all the owners I talked to said the repairs, and maintenence on them were not bad. Let's face it, you are buying a very pricey toy, so if it costs a little to keep it right, who cares. It shouldn't be that much higher to keep-up. I just didn't have that much to spend on a new bike. I will consider one in the future, for sure. I will keep my R1, though. It would be nice to have a fairly unique motorcycle. One that you don't see "everyone' riding!

Earache, that's a cool pic of you on your Duc. Was that taken at
the gap in Sept?

V S have you gone to the Apilia dealer here in Vegas? They just opened a new shop over in Henderson and they have many bikes and they are very cool there. They have a two wheeled tuesday every week and they get together at the Hot Rod grill right down the street from the shop.
