Okay couple questions here. First off I own a 2000 r1 and i just purchased a 2004 swingarm with all the goodies, shock, rear brake and mount, rotor, pretty much everything but the wheel. I realize the swap may not be exact match but I will take necessary action to make it work. That being said I came across these rims on craigslist that would set the bike off I think. Only thing is they are off a cbr. So the question is, would these be possible, if so what do you think would need to be done?

all those parts are useless...It will not work! :fact

Care to elaborate?
sure!
the 04 model have the exhaust under the seat. Our Motorcycle doesn't. That alone will make the swing-arm and shock not lining up to our Motorcycle frame.

Your best bet is to look for a Harris swing-arm or a Dymag swing-arm :lol. which are a direct fit on our motorcycles. If your not interested on spending that kind of money on ur motorcycle, i suggest going on eBay and look for 5JJ parts for it.

Hope it helps!
cheers!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info. I will do more homework and report back thanks a billion.

I've seen it done 1 time I believe it was on this forum. Not 100 percent sure on that, but I actually tried it. It would take a lot of work and I mean a LOT. The pivot tube area doesn't even clear the motor. It's definately a no go. The one I saw in pics looked nice but I'm sure the guy went thru hell to pull it off.

@gogorider thanks for the response. I knew it wasn't impossible but of course it would then come down to exactly how much work would it take.....

Well for those still interested: I took off the 00 stock arm this weekend just to have a look and tried fitting the 04 in there it was off by almost 1/8 in so after inspecting the 04 arm some more I realized the bearings had about 1/8 inch further they could be pushed inside the pivot tube. Giving me an extra 1/16 inch space I could could shave off each side and still leave a 1/16 clearance on either side. So i shaved off both sides so it would fit. Which it did, but the diameter of the pivot tube is just a hair too wide, and the spot where the shock anchors to the swingarm is set off to the side. This makes the shock sit in cock eyed. So going to make a couple mods to it and will post pics soon.

can't wait to see it. it was a long time ago that I tried it. long before I had a welder. I thought I remembered the pivot tube being too big to where it was hitting the engine case. if you pull it off, then maybe Ill try it again. I have a TIG welder now so the offset on the shock mount will be an easy fix. I just did a mod on the turbo thread that Im working on where I put a ZX-9R swing arm on my YZF 750R frame. Its an extended arm so I did it to save money.

Yeah it does hit the block but not by much so I'm wondering how much I have to take off. Hopefully not much, so as long as it doesn't fűç with the integrity of the arm you know. Unfortunately my guy who does the tig welding for me is out of town. so kind of stuck at the moment but will be posting updates as they occur.

I'm not trying to bash your thread but what's the point of all this? Seems a little worthless to remove a perfectly functional swing arm to tinker with another swing arm that if you are successful at merging will produce a whole lot of other concerns, ranging from proper chain alignment, to handling concerns. And unless you're an R1 enthusiast, no one will even notice the switch of the swing arm, it's not like it's a single sided arm that will set it apart from other swing arms or an extended swing arm to drag with.

My personality is that of a utilitarian so unless it's purpose built I don't see the point. Can you shed some light?

Well, in his defense, it really would set his bike apart from the others. Basically, being the utilitarian you are, there might as well not be a performance section, and mods and appearence section, or amy thing else section other than how to do repairs. If you think that it's dumb or useless to have a unique machine or do mods that will challenge you to sit back and be proud of your work, then I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your in the wrong forum bruh. Just keeping it real.

Well actually there are performance reasons. The 04 swingarm is a more rigid arm for a couple reasons one being that the support brace is on top compared to the opposite on the 2000. Also the 04 allows me to mount the rear caliper on the top portion of the rotor reducing the chance of rear wheel slides compared to the bottom. It also allows me to upgrade to a newer year model shock which will have the canister horizontally mounted instead of the 2000 oem which is vertical, (not that that is why I want a newer shock) the 04 and higher shocks are a lot more adjustable than that of earlier..... Plus it just looks cool duh. No im bulls***ten about the looks cool. I really am just trying to upgrade it anyway possible as cheaply as possible. My bike is my newest passion. Unfortunately funds are tight these days so if I can do my own upgrade with newer year model, oem s**t, that performs better...... I'm going to damn sure try to find a way to make it work. Oh and did I mention it looks cool.
