long story short Forum Vets, I opened the crank case and this is what I have. Went in to replace the stator w/ my new one(thanx RonAyers) but magnets were broken.
What is this telling me?
whats the cause of this?
can it be replaced without replacing the whole rotor assemble?
Lastly can the stator be checked using a multimeter?
Thanx guys:scared

stator (still looks to be in good condition) connected to case cover...... pile of magnets & rotor assy......ring that was at one point attached inside that metal cylinder which also had the magnets attached to it!

Rotor replacement needed

Hi,

Seemingly I need to repace the rotor as well. I opened my 2007 R1 Alternator and found no magets at all on the rotor inner walls. all parts are broken and stuck together,

Should I replace only the Rottor, or can I buy the magets alone?
Do I also need to replace the stator?

Thanks

PS,
Any recommended store to buy from online?

Ok guys I found that my magnets went to complete shit too. Nobody responded to the question above and I was hoping to know too. Can you just replace the magnets? At the current moment I don't have the $350 to replace the whole thing. If I have to I will lose most of the rising season with a trip coming up next month with my boys and all. Any help one where to get the best deals on quality parts would be awesome.

So u can get the stator assembly which has just the magnets not the rotor assembly. Get part # 5vy-81410-00-00

5vy was an old part number, the updated part keeps the magnets protected. Had this same issue almost 2 years ago, used the updated part and haven't had an issue since.
Make sure to use this updated part!

Best price I found was on eBay, but do a bunch of searches for the part number.

Also careful not to drop anything into the crank case. PITA and I know from experience...
If you do however, set your phone to take a video with the flash on and have a look around. I was able to retrieve a washer and spacer that fell by using one of those long flexible grabber things holding a magnet.
May the odds be ever in your favor

Also, as COP TZR said, replace the inner and outer bearings. Both of mine had become damaged due to the instability of the rotor after the magnets disintegrated. I would up pulling everything apart and back together 3 times because I didn't know any better. Just do it all at once.

The ironic thing is that your stator was probably just fine... the failure of the generator rotor magnets is most likely the cause of all your troubles (tons of threads about this on the forum).

I think I need to do this as well, do you happen to know the part numbers for all the rotor bearings?

I'm in the process of installing the updated rotor in my r1 I just picked up 2004 now has 1000 miles on it. The stock rotor is fine just don't wanna chance it being there is no way I'd ever find another 04 that's basically brand new. Gonna sell the rotor that's in it for a couple hundred for anyone that's willing to risk it. I highly don't recommend it.
