I’m signing up for a track weekend in late June at NCM Motorsports Park in KY with Midweet Track Days ; first time at this track. I was looking at the bike regulations for the event and they ban K&N oil filters, which is what I use because I love the little nut on top. I asked the Google machine about it and saw some stuff from’17-‘19 when there were issues with either the weld at the nut failing or the entire filter blowing off due to thread problems (or both). Anyone have this experience? Has it been resolved but bad rep lingers?
Anyway- It looks like the Hi-Flo has a similar nut on top. Is this a good filter? Why is it 1/2 the price of OEM or K&N?

Frank I have been using Hi Flow oil filters for 6 years no problem on two bikes including the R1.
And like you say you can wire them too. Them being cheap is bonus [emoji106]

To note; I believe K&N has fixed the issue, but some companies refuse to risk it.
I run OEM and hose clamp safety wire to it. Plenty of guys use the hi flo but I’ve always stuck with OEM after reading an article about pressure bypass built into the OEM. I don’t know if hi flo has the bypass but if they do I’d consider them. I always hear good things
 
Hi flo is a k&n subsidiary last time I looked. They make a solid filter. The failure rate of the k&n oil filters with the welded nut is much lower than it used to be, but, occasionally a bad one still slips through, hence the caution.
 
I've been to trackdays where a rider has inadvertently oiled the track and crashed, then those behind them crash, then the session gets red-flagged, then the crash truck rolls, sometimes the ambulance, then it takes quite a while to get the track clean enough to ride again while riders sit and sweat in the pits. It's a big series of dominoes that has potentially serious consequences. That's another reason why OEM oil filters are recommended. That, and they're good.

Wow... I was using the K&N for the ease of the nut for removal and the availability (I’ve been getting them and my oil from Advance Auto) without worry because they’re K&N! I guess the moral of the story is go OEM.

Amsoil and Wix are good too.
 
Wix, Hastings, Napa Gold, OEM = Best. Do not accept low quality substitutes like Fram, K&N,etc.
a decade ago I worked at an auto parts store. We had oil filter from all of these brands Opened up with a can opener and on display so that you could see the quality of the paper, number of pleats, type of bypass valve and make your own observations/comparisons.
 
After dissection, based only upon appearance of the innards for me it would be Bosch>HiFlo>(Mann/K&N) which aren’t even to be considered, but are lesser than Bosch and HiFlo in my opinion.
Figured it would be an entertaining video since he had Prodigy as the opening soundtrack LOL
 
After having an issue with a leaky K&N on the wife's former R3, I always choose Oem now. Don't even miss the nut anymore after buying a cap style filter tool.

Cut open an Amsoil filter. They are good too.
 
We didn’t happen to have one of those in the variety of filters that were cut open. This was ten years ago that I worked there.
I will take your word that Amsoil filters are the goods
