Welcome! I've been a R1 junkie. 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015. Couldn't afford the 2020! So good for you buying that beautiful 2024. (y)

I agree -beautiful bike! Did Yamaha's announcement about retiring the R1 (for the street anyway) play into your decision? I'm kinda in the same boat-have an 03 I bought new and just love-fantastic "Pure Street" R1! There were so many awesome R1's that came along after, and I was so close to jumping on a few but didn't. All the hype of the crossplane finally got to me so I picked up a 2016. I Love Yamaha Blue, but also kinda dug the Matte Gray and liked the silver motors! I basically stole it too price wise as a leftover.
But your bike is stunning--I really like the color scheme of the 24 and with the R1 going away I just don't know if I want my last R1 not to be Blue! It's a lot of money to spend on a bike, that's basically meant for the track anyway, just ...well...because, but I'll probably regret not getting one before they're gone! There are dealers in this general area that are discounting these things pretty aggressively, putting them at or below the MSRP of the 2015's when they first came out, for a revised and much improved and better looking version! Just don't know what to do!

I actually started out looking a used one. Most people seem to think they are gold and are selling for close to the price of new.
I came across what I believe a decent deal and my Financial Advisor (aka wife) told me to jump on it, so I did. Lol

I also liked the gray and I know they were a little bit cheaper in price but I didnt like the R1S wheels.

Where in Florida?

They offered the R1 in the same Matte Gray in 16 as well, but I knew I wasn't (likely) going on the track with it, and I prefer the 5-slant spoke wheel look anyway. True, that wheel design was on every R1 since 2004 (except the 2006 LE) until the 2015 redesign--so maybe a little tired looking--but I'm just not crazy about the 2015+ wheel design even though they are a bit lighter. $1500 lower MSRP but dealers were offering much bigger discounts on them--fine with me! I got 99.5% R1 for thousands less, with wheels I like better anyway, only missing a few things that mean absolutely nothing for a streetbike, and for that matter most track riders, and still got a bike that's more powerful, more technologically advanced, and more capable than any R1 up through 2014--works for me! Southwest Florida--but headed back to NC soon!

I am with you 100% -- I never go on the track and am totally fine with the R1S -- I just liked the wheel redesign of the 2015+ R1.
Mine is a Matte Gray 2016.

I am in South Florida.
