The carbon tank on the 02 is finally fixed. I rode her for the whole summer and the leak has stopped, finally.

So, I think it's about time I do a few upgrades on her.

Yes, I know what you guys are thinking, another long ass thread that I will get bored and not finish. :lol

Anyway, tearing down the back end...

yellowduckling, your threads are never boring. In fact, they are full of usable information. :thumbup

Hard to believe, but the carbon rear fender and the carbon chain cover were painted in blue and then black and covered with at least 100 layers of clear.

I wanted to restore back to carbon fiber. The Jasco was finally strong enough to get all of the paint off.

For this build, I want to replace all of the axles (swingarm, engine, and front wheel) with titanium counterparts. Well, as you know, it's next to impossible to track down these titanium parts that are specifically made for the R1. So, I will use the titanium axles from other bikes.

Here is the titanium swingarm axle from the MV Agusta. The diameter and length are perfect fit. However, the left end does not fit.

i LOVE your threads!:bow
and damn, that is nice work on restoring the carbon!:fact
i'd have thought it would destroy the original resin in the carbon? obviously not!:rock

we need more pics and an explanation about what you did or had done to the carbon tank.
i remember when it failed and i thought you'd given up on it.

what else are you planning in mods for the bike?:dunno:hellobye

It was rather frustrating getting the paint off, to tell you the truth, Greg. The trick is to go real slow and continue to alternate between the paint remover and sand paper until you get to the resin. Then, I use the 3M pad to smooth everything out before re-clear.

The tank was an endless story of many failure attempts before I tried the POR (shit, I forgot the name now. I think it's in my BoTM thread). That stuff works great.

The build is still not done and I am running short on fund, unfortunately.
