looks saweet!!!! did the R6 subframe bolt directly up to the frame?

 

The R6 subframe is bolted on but not without cutting the R6 subframe and making some brackets. The battery and electrical components just fit!

I bought the bike with the tail installed. I did change a frew things you can't see like a battery bracket and I straightened up some wiring. The brackets I mention for subframe were already installed but they were steal (heavy and started to show some rust) so I replaced them with aluminum. I bought a peice of 1/8 thick aluminum from Home Depot and once I got the shape I wanted I sand blasted and painted them. I'll post pics tomorrow.

You might want to go back to the steal. If your tail is done the same way I did mine, the brackets keep the tail from folding up during a wreck.

 

I really like that, great idea. I was contemplating on doing the same on my 04 just to be a lil different. Kudos! :rock

If I did it though I'd try to marry up the front section of the 02/03 R1 seat to the R6 so it matches the tank/infill panels better. Then get it re-covered.

I see what you mean but the seat is off a 06' R6. I took some closer pics and will load them after work. If anyone wants details I can try to help with what I see but I didn't do the work.

I know mate, I meant I'd strip both seat bases down and join the front tank sections of the 02/03 R1 to the R6 rear then recover the new base. I think it would make it look 100% then

Guys this job is a lot of work. You have to take roughly 6 1/2 inches out of the R6 subframe. Then grind to match the angel of the stock 02 frame. Not to mention trying to squeeze 10lbs of ish into 5lbs bag. And I am still looking for pics of the bracket for those who wanted to see.

It also means that if an 06' R6 tail will, so others will too...:fact

 

There is a thread on here of his build up, it detailed the subframe/R6 tail modifications and his paint job, he PM'ed me a few times but for the life of me I can't remember his screen name. I thought he had an MIVV canister like Firehawk's on it originally :dundun:

 

The guy who did the work on my bike is screen name cbrklr2.
I contacted him when I bought the bike. He should be able to answer any questions.
