04 torque specs

I just checked the canadian yamaha site today and looked at the specs for the R1. It turns out the the new R1 makes a bit less torque than the 03 R1 but at a higher RPM. The 03 made 79.5 ft-lb at 8500 RPM. The 04 makes 76.7 ft-lb at 10500 RPM. I personally feel that even tho it makes less torque it will be a bit more easy going at lower RPM so if you stuck in traffic it aint gonna rip your arms off. But then again its not much of a loss and it weighs 4 pounds less...so i dunno:p

What do all you guys think?

R1 will be down on torque? and it's suppose to have 180 bhp!( yeah right). Can anyone say CBR1000RR:)
Surely you cannot be serious. I am not even sure that it is true about the 04 having less torque. It is not suppose to have 180bhp. Even if the 04 did have less torque than the previous motor it will most likely still be more than the CBR1k will have!

Yamaha is going for peak HP. Honda is going for more lower and mid HP. The CBR1000RR is claimed to make 80ft-lb and 163HP without ram-air.

Peak HP for Honda is around 11,250 rpm and 12,500 rpm for the R1. The Honda will make power sooner than the R1.

I love mid range torque.
I intentionally didnt fit an akra system because my muzzy system gave better midrange increases where as the akra gave maximum top end power.
I'm dissapointed that not only did torque get reduced BUT it has been moved right out of the range that you would pull out of corners (about 8000).
I'd say yamaha are playing a game of numbers against their competitors with HP figures. I dont think we will really know it will be like untill someone rides the thing.

you guys are joking right.. please say so.. trust me.. you will NOT notice the lost of 2.2 ft/lbs of PEAK torque

you are giving up 2.2 ft/lbs of torque loss.. for a gain of about 25 HORSEPOWER to result in 180HP with ram air, and increased 13,750 redline.. and for god sakes look at the POWER CURVE on a dyno sheet.. before you draw conclusions about what power is lost or gained where..

Stop knocking the 04 R1 its a great machine that looks on paper to KILL everything else in 04.. if you want the Honda.. get the damn honda.. but dont say its because it will better the R1.. midrange power or not.. when its time to TWIST.. you will know which bike is KING..

But dont say the lost of 2.2ft/lbs PEAK.. is the reason why you are jumping ship on a bike..

yeah the loss of 2.2 ft lb of torque is nothing to cry over. And besides look at the R6, it makes all its power around 11 000 RPM and look how well it does.

If you take the time to watch the videos on the yamaha site they say it handles like the R6. I think thats great because the R6 is the best handling 600 bike. I just hope yammi isn't blowing smoke up our ass's on that.

Has anyone seen the new honda CRB 1000rr? I think the thing is fugly. They should have stuck with the same colors as the CBR 600rr. It looks like something that was from the early 90s. I just hope it preforms well and since it a honda i'm sure it will. I cant wait till some comparisons come out

guys guys, let's not forget we lose 4 LBS on the 04. besides it depends what revs ur in on the exit of the corner and what gear ur in. this bike is clearly made to rev as hell, and by that time it will slingshot u to the next corner. the others won't catch up since they have to compete with 180 bhp. i think a slip-on will help with a bit of tuning with pc3. 2.2? for god/s sake don't judge a book by it's cover. what do u think eyespy?

Guys honda brought back the NSR 50 mini sport bike. I use to love those bikes like the YSR 50 and 80. Also Honda brought out its long await sprottrax quad. I think the new YFZ 450 yamaha quad it better tho just from looks, suspension and stuff. anyways i know this is off topic but i thought i should mention it

A bike's effectiveness at cornering & acceleration is best tested at a tight track. If the R1 gets consistently dumped on in such circuits against the ZX10, CBR1KR, GSX-R & others, then the factory probably went too far in its quest to get the highest hp numbers. Still, losing 2-4 lb-ft is a rather small loss compared to hitting the almost stratospheric 172 static hp mark.

Reading a variety of tests from different mags will reveal a pattern. No single test should be taken as "gospel", but a variety of tests can be a relatively accurate measure of the truth, such as it is.

Wait & see.
