Im outa the r6 and about to buy a new R1. The guy at the dealer says $13,500 out the door. What do you guys think about that? Its asking price plus tax and fees so I dont think its a good deal, but ive never bought a new bike so i dont know what mark up and dealer profit is like. What did some of you pay for your new R1? Thanks in advance for any help.

BTW im going wed. to pick it up whatever i decide, assuming the guy gives me a deal im ok with.

I have only been in the market for the last couple of weeks, and from what I've seen $13.5 sounds steep to me. It's getting close to the end of the season and most dealerships are trying to get rid of what they have, or so it seems. You should be able to pick up a new R1 for right around $11k out the door, give or take $200.

Location/timing is key. Many guys/girls on this forum paid anywhere b/w $9,700 - $10,300 before taxes/fees for a brand new R1.

The dealer imo is asking way too much. Even if you're in Cali, you should be able to find a dealer willing to negotiate. Good luck.

From what i've read on this board, the price of bikes in CA is more than another state. I guess the price can be dictated by region.

Personally, I think $ 13.5k is a litte steep too.

A starting point will be:

1) Price of bike (Negotiable)
2) Dealer Fees (Somewhat negotiable)
3) Sales tax (Non negotiable)

With that said, you'll only have room to negotiable off the MSRP from the bike. Once you have the price, add the dealer fees and sales tax.

Lets break the number down for you. If you chose the blue color Yamaha, the MSRP is $11,299. Add state tax of 6.25% (TX) and your price would be $12,005.19. Title and registration fee (TX again) is roughly $70 so your total will be $12,075.19.

In other words, the dealer is planning to charge you around $1,425 for set up fees which should be already built into the MSRP? Seriously, shop around.

I got my 2006, R1 50th Anniversary (Black & Yellow) for $10.9K out the door.

Let me know if you are interested and I'll hook you up with the sales rep. contact info. He is pretty cool and easy to work with.

Thanks alot for the input!!

Im giving them 6k up front ,down payment, and already have my own financing for the remainder. So its not like they even gotta do any work for the sale. From what you guys are telling me, i think i can more than ask for a Shoei helmet and spedi 1 piece, spelling?, and still make the deal.

Ill definatly shop around though.

Ya im definatly interested!! Im in sacramento Ca , so if he's local and can do me a similar deal tell him you just sold his bike for him!!

dont feel bad they ripped me off, i paid 12,600 out the door with a 760 score and no credit history, no one wanted to finance me but they found a company so i guess it balances out. then i after like a month i found out i could of paid 11,200 out the door financed.
i gave $2,700 down so i would not have to pay insurance, but some companies do requiere insurance.

remember i have a raven and i think they are more expensive. actually like 500 more, sooo...

Especially with the 07's on the way. I spoke to a friend whos been looking and he was told supposedly that the shipment of the 07's was on hold. *Shrug* But some dealers already have their 07 R6's in.

I think its the R6S, that some dealers have or are getting really soon. I wouldn't count on an 07 to hit the streets until early next year.
