I'm sure alot of yamaha bike owners are upset about the new 08 R1's. I mean spec for spec its the same as the 07. Oh and the color schemes suck besides the factory blue. What happened with the red and white? If someone can give me 3 good reasons why to buy an 08 instead of an 07 please reply.

yamaha has gotten into a pattern of updating their sportbike models every 2 years with the exception of the '06. 98-99 are essentially the same. 00-01 are essentially the same. 02-03 are essentially the same. 04-05 are essentially the same, and 07-08 are essentially the same. deal with it, partner.

I waited patiently for the '08 colors, as well, but now after seeing them, may just get the charcoal '07. Hell, since I waited so long, I may just join the dark side and pick up an '08 white/silver Gixxer1000.

Why would Yamaha owners be upset. Where you expecting something different? Most sportbikes work on a 2 year cycle. If you want something new and improved in the form of an R1, you will have to wait till 09

Purchase the 07 and save some money.

Ride safe.

geesus, whats the BFD? Everyone knew they wouldn't change the model after only 1 year.

Welcome to sport bike reality and pretty much what all manufacturers have been doing forever.

They are the same bike, just like a few of us mentioned that it would be. Anyone thinking any different was a clear case of smoking crack. Therefore there is no reason to be disappointed one bit.

As for getting an 08 or 07, buy what you can afford, the 07's will be a little less in price but the same bike.

I'm keeping my 05... it's WAY TO FAST for me. :yesnod

Now... 2010 will probably be my next R1, keeping with my "new R1 every 5 years" plan. :fact

2000
2005
2010

black and gold? black and gold is an awesome color!!! through some gold marcs on and a ttx in back and your set! i was looking around at different body shops to paint my charcoal parts black and i have been looking for gold shocks so i can just do the ohlins cartridge kit instead of the whole fork.

the 08 red is nice and i think if you want the 07 scheme there wont be any problem trading your red fairing and tank half for black ones. got to love the ti color wheels.

well, i wanted the red and white paint scheme too, but i wasn't disappointed in the technology of the bike because of the two year model update. i will wait until they do come out with the red/white and keep riding my champions edition r1 and my red/black/white '02 r1. (by the way, i'm not thinking of getting rid of these either)

I was unofficially told by a dealer who gave his personal opinion that red/white is too close to Honda's race colors in the US. This is the reason why it is unlikely we will see another red/white R1 in the US. The reason why Europe has it, is because red/white is what Yamaha uses for their race colors.

Whether that is true or not, I decided the red/black on the 07 was just too beautiful and the bike is already more powerful than anything else i've ever owned. So just get the 07 and save some money. I got mine for $10,799 OTD in NorCal about 2 months ago.
