My bike 2009 R1 occasionally does the rattle on start up so I'd like to replace the part.
I see on two sites different part numbers
14b-12210-02-00 and another site says that part number 1kb-12210-00-00 replaces that part
I'm a little confused as to which part I should order now :dunno

dealership should replace it free of charge :fact
I checked with the dealer. Yamaha bikes in Hawaii come direct from Japan and they ran my vin number and said my bike is not on the recall list.........whatever anyway I'll just do it myself its easier than dealing with the dealership.

All '09s are on the list and most of '10 :lol Fking dealerships :shake

Anyway, why not do the APE manual one so you know it works if you are doing it yourself?
I'll do it myself. That one from APE looks straight forward and it's way cheaper than stock. I guess I'll try that one.

I've had my APE for at least 6 months with no issues and when I start the bike it no longer sounds like someone is slapping the block with a chain. The local dealer told me to take a hike that my bike was not covered so it seemed like a no brainer. Just watch the video and instal exactly as instructed. I think it took me 20 minutes.

My boy has a new 12 and its doing it as well - I actually am waiting for the dealership I bought the bike from to free up some time to finish some warranty work they started - the primary gear and I believe the gear it interacts with are 2 different metals and because they wear at different rates its causes issues and a weird noise so I brought it in and also found out a had a bad bearing - they replaced the bearing and gave me back the bike , when I picked it up they informed me to compleat the repair the bike would need to be there for at least a month and I wasn't about to be down during the season so i planned to bring it in November but I did go back because of the cct noise and at that time they told me it was normal and he said to wait until it fails .... What ever if it fails I get a new top end right ?

WTF? your dealer said wait until it fails? If the cam chain tensioner fails it can cause catastrophic engine failure! Damage can be bent valves holes knocked through your pistons thus causing metal fragments to scar the hell out of your crank. Failure could likely get you a new motor complete with another pos stock cam chain tensioner. You should go punch your dealer I the face then instal the APE following the directions on the video APE has to the letter. Problem solved with the exception of the assault charges for punching your dealer in the face.
