Well, My buddy has a supercharged Viper GTS with nitrous on it. i have a bone stock 06 r1 se. we raced a few weeks ago from 50-175 and i took him by 6 car lengths. however....he wasn't using spray....next weekend he wants to race again, this time he's bringing the spray, and race gas. the car runs consistant 9.90-10.3 @ 140-145 at the track. any suggestions on what i can do to take the beast down?

any thoughts on lower gearing being usefull for this? perhaps a small shot of nitrous myself? keeping in mind this is my daily driver i don't have a car.

A shot of nitrous is essential on this one. I think that's the only way you could have a chance.

with a decent rider and a strap, your stock bike should run 9.8-9.9s all day long. but without additional power, you're not going to walk him.

I would think you're probably better off going from a dig, and hoping he screws up. of course you run a higher risk of screwing up as well. racing from a roll never made any sense to me anyways. it's a silly, skill-less exhibition of what money can buy.

with a properly setup bike and a 40 shot, you would be talking about low 9s, high 8s. but that's with an extended swingarm, lowered, geared, exhaust, tuning, air shifter, etc, and a decent rider.

with a full exhaust and a dyno tune, you should make somewhere around 160-162rwhp. thats more than enough power to easily go mid 9s. but that's assuming proper bike setup, and if you can ride.

do what you can, but don't get crazy stupid as you need the bike the next day.:secret:

I also second the flat tire motion :yesnod

You can't without at least a 40 shot. My FZ1 recently ran a 620rwhp TA from 60-160 3 times and i could not get ahead of him at all!

A 1100rwhp Ford GT recently at some Busa's and 14's here locally and it took a 1397 Busa to beat him.

I would think your R1 could handle up to 750-800rwhp all motor but after that you are in for trouble. Also you have to start at a lower speed so it puts the car at a disadvantage...

hes on 315 DOT drag radials, you know the ones... with two thin grooves in them.

OK so consensus is i'm ****ed after the 1/4 eh, but to take him in the 1/4 i'm gonna need lower gearing a pc3 and full exhaust along with a 40 shot?

i'll be the first to nadmit i'm no awesome rider...all my drag racing was done on a n rc51 and it didn't bog easily. the r1 is one HELL of a lot trickier to launch. any suggestions on technique compared to the v-twin?

coming from a ton of drag racing experience in cars, it will take a lot of nitrous when already running those et's and MPH to make a huge difference on the freeway. The one thing the nitrous will most likely help the most is cool the motor down a ton which will definitely improve the HP numbers from the charger. I would try to start from a sweet spot in 1st gear where you can slip the clutch some to avoid a wheelie and get a walk going on him. If this car is geared for quarter mile runs you should still be able to hang I think. Just my 2 cents.

I'm suprised that you took him by 6 cars w/o spray..say he's spraying 200 shots...he's still pushing 800rwhp without it! I think you're in a world of trouble once he's spraying. You're gonna run out of gear while his car keeps going.

I'm not sure how accurate his details are. A 1000rwhp should run close to the 8's. 145mph in the qtr is closer to a 750rwhp car in the 3200lb range.

I'm not sure if he is sand bagging you or lying about the HP.
Be cautious as there may be more here than you are expecting.

A Viper with stock suspension will not hook well well on regular street tires. If he is on normal tires run him from a stop... he will have a hard time not blowing the tires off.

A good street car on drag radials can pull 60' times in the 1.4 range or better, so if it is prepped I would be nervous from a dead stop.

Below is some info on a few cars I helped put together to help reference the cars performance potential.

650rwhp Camaro = high 9's at 136mph (drag radial)
830rwhp Camaro = 9.3 at 148 mph (slicks)
950rwhp Mustang = 8.7 at 165 mph (drag radial)
630rwhp Z06 = 12.1 at 132mph (street tires) 2.1 60' so you can see how tires help.

Good luck & keep us posted on the results.

What he said,,,,, Whoop his ass out of the hole and start to spray 40-50 horse on the top of second. I doubt he can catch you then

Aw hell man, he"s already one down. Race him and make him work for it (read at least 40 shot) then if he wins you know what you have to do. (if its close give him a little so next time he will be a little more confident) Then get what you need, back him in a corner and get him to pony up some dough. I think you can figure out the rest.

20k just for the turbo kit he's purchasing because my geared r1 hurt his feelings.

on a side note, I'm from the Derry, Manchester area originally, so I can ask this... what in the hell are you doing with an r1 in BF concord NH!?:dunno that gives you what 3 days of riding a year between the crappy weather, crappy cops, and crappy drivers?
