Got a brand new 04 R1 and been riding this bike for about two months. Never was good at wheelies before but can consistently do speed wheelies nailing the throttle in 1st at 8k rpms. Any advice on slow moving 12 o'clocks on this bike?

If your bringing it up off the throthle, then you should try to bring it up at a lower rpm. The bike can easily come up at around 5k off the throttle. But in all honesty, I wouldn't try a 12 o'clock or anything close to it on 1st off the throttle. Maybe you should start practicing on 2nd gear by hopping it up. You can definetely feel safer and find your balancing point easier off the throttle.
Good luck and be safe...

Can anybody give some more specifics about rpms and speed going in a good wheelie with the 04? Our 04s and 05s aren't exactly low end powerhouses. I gotta get some good wheelies in my skills bag.

I went 12 o clock once. I was in first gear practicing on my 99. The outcome....a new bike. 12 o clock is scary if you are not use to it. I didn't flip it though. I punked out and got off the bike. I didn't even have to look at it to tell it was totaled.

NOT A GOOD PRACTICE BIKE but if you got the dough practice stand up in second gear , try going as 5-15 mph as you push down on the front shocks , pop the clutch and give it good gas!
think of it as being on a bicycle and your trying to use your body weight to wheelie, obiusly your weight alone is not going to pick it up thats why you have to shift your weight at the right time, easiest position right foot on right front peg, left foot on left rear peg,try to keep your gas steady and use your clutch try to learn how to use your break to slow down (not bring it down)
well Im probaly forgetting something ,it easier to do it than to explain it,
oh yeah the clutch is your friend! wear gear and make sure you have some one filming when you fall makes great show and tell story!
2 kinds of riders those who have fell! and those who are going to fall, crash and burn, ....J/K
good luck be safe..
