What are the pros and cons of going with a 180 or 190?

180 may offer quicker turn in due to steeper profile... and less mass to accelerate

I made the swich to a 180 years ago and liked it right away, for reasons already said. I think they are easier to find as well cause there is alot of 600 and 750s around here I can get take offs from and the dealer stocks a wider variety of 180s too

On an R1 how does switching to a 180 effect the height in the rear. Do you need to make any changes to your suspension? I have one on mine and like it but when I bought the bike the original tires (190) had flat spots. It obviously felt like an improvement!

BS BS BS BS......... That turn in crap is all BS..... The reason the 190 is harder to turn in is incorrect suspention and ride height adjustment. If you correct for either size, U would be hard pressed to know the difference......(In regard to turn in speed)

180 saves U dough and gets less mass there for spins up quicker.... To get power down in a straight line go 180. U want stick in corners go 190.....

190/55 is best option for 190 but not all vendors make it...
Good luck in your decision.

Sorry I dont mean to bash the quicker turn in comments but that is only if U slap a tire on and make no geometry changes ...... Leave your 190 on there and drop the front ride height 1-3 mm's and voila the quicker turn in argument for a 180 is gone (amount of drop is dependant on tire manufacturer)

I run PP 190/50 now but i will definitely get PP 2CT's in the 190/55 next change out. they dont make PP 190/55 just regular. The 190/55 has the most contact patch in the turns and that means everything to me. I think the spinup/rotational mass argument is true but it is a cost benefit situation for me. Safety in turns or faster turning/ accel speed, it is all about what is more important to you. I would never go down to a 180/55 though....

If it's a Michelin the 180 has a larger circumference than their 190 which raises the back end of the bike ( I do not recall the exact amount ) that is why you would notice the easier turn in. I've been told R1's react nicely to raising the rear of the bike as much as 15mm. Although I don't think the tire alone does that it may be as much as 10mm.
A much cheaper way to find out than an adjustable length shock !!
