I JUST PUT ON MY 2002 R1 A REAR TIRE DUNLOP 200X50-17 IT FIT PERFECT,ALSO YOU CAN FEEL THE DIFERENCE WHEN YOU RIDE,THE CURVES ARE FUNNY,

Yup don't do it. First of all it's simply "Poseriffic" and secondly if you thought your R1 wallowed into turns with a 190/50 wait till you feel it with a200 on back , it'll feel like your cow tippin. Go with a 180/55 and you'll immediately feel the difference and it'll raise the rear end a little.

whats the stock tire size in the rear for an 01 R1? I bought my bike used and it has 190/50 on it....bout time to replace tires so i am wondering which size (190 or 180) is better for street riding (no tracking) and semi-aggressive cornering.

What are the "feel" differences?

I've seen a photograph of a Busa with an aftermarket swingarm and 250 (Avon I think) planted on it. Looks good from the back, not sure how it would handle through a corner though....:scared

The 200 felt more stable for around toen and on the highway but sucked everywhere else. It's also 1 lb heavier than the 190. Also the 180 is 1 lb lighter than the 190. So with the 180 having a slightly sharper profile, lighter and raising the rear end you steering is much quicker.

do I have to get 120/70 in the front if i get the 180/55 in the rear....right now i have 120/60 in the front cause i have a 190/50 rear

also....forgive me if this is a dumb question....but yamaha made the R1 stock with 190/50 tires...didnt they do that for a good reason? smaller tires for better turning is great...but it must affect other aspects of the bike...its like buying a corvette that comes with beefy tires and mounting some skinnier ones on it....??

I don't know of too many people using a 120/60F on an R1 but its not to say ya can't, however the 120/70 gives a bit more compliance with a bit larger contact patch.

The 190/50 according to some has the feeling of more high speed stability and perhaps a bit larger contact patch as well but at the sacrifice of flickability from side to side.

I know it doesn't relate to R1 guys, but I found this picture I was talking about before.
Looks wicked though.....

A 180 gives a larger contact patch when leaned over than a 190/50. It also gives better turn in

Man you guys got me all excited now!! I can't wait to get a new back tire, 180 here I come!! Less money, less weight, better turn in, larger contact patch....why did I buy another 190?
