ok so i searched this forum for a specific write up for an 01 R1 radiator switch mod and could not find anything sooooo I went at it alone lol. I have some questions and I hope you guys can correct my process if I did anything wrong.

Once I get my facts correct I will post a detailed write up along with some pics for all your 2001R1 owners but first I have questions.
I basically spliced into both the wires that come from the thermostat and ran them to a lighted switch.
Now if I ground the switch my fan will come on but the LED on the switch will not light up. If I do NOT ground the switch the LED on the switch will light up but my fan will not turn on, WHY?

What am I doing wrong or is a lighted switch just simply not compatible with this setup?
Also, when I manually turn the fan on with my switch mod, the HI temp light will light up, is this normal since the ECU thinks it’s actually overheating? Once I turn my fan off with my switch, the HI temp light goes away. My question is, Will this affect anything or is this just the way it’s going to be when I run my fan manually?

If anyone can help me answer these questions id be more than grateful, after I confirm my setup is setup properly I will take and post a detailed write up for everyone.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

so would you recommended i do what you did or do you think i should be fine the way i did it?

does the high temp light come on on you dash when you flick you fan on manually?

and how worried should i be about waterproffness lol?

I'm no electrics expert, I got help from sss r1 to figure mine out, and he is.
My switch has no light, so I can't help you there either. But My switch works, the fan still comes on if I forget to flick it, and there are no temp lights or warning lights of any kind. So I can only recommend my method, I don't know if your method is doing any harm or not. :thumbup

ok i fixed the issue lol

so i was using the wrong switch and i was wiring it from the wrong location.

i followed carbonar's write up on the link he provided above on post #210 and it worked great.

i was using a switch with a built in LED which required a ground...well every time i would ground it my fuse would go out.

so i had an extra switch laying around, simple one just like the one carbonar used and it worked great. no more HI temp light and now i can i flick my fan on when ever i want.

works great and very easy to do. i did the same exact thing as carbonar but i mounted my switch in a different location as i am currently missing my console plastics.

im also adding a vid me and my bro did a while back...though you guys could get a laugh at it just like i did lol....enjoy.

i honestly think that this fan switch mod is one of the single most important mods to do.

works wonders...im still thinking of replacing my thermostat so it will still kick in when i forget or just for the fact that it gives me a peace of mind knowing i have a working thermo lol

definetly going to get my friend to do this to his r6
