OK. I have been toying with the idea of making a holder to replace the fender for the 2002. Since Yamaha made it so easy I figure there is no way that I am going to pay $100+ for a "fender eliminator". I finally decided to make it out of aluminum. Below is a picture of what I intend for it to look like. I modeled it up in CAD. What I am wondering is how many people would be willing to buy one. I can send this out to a sheet metal house and get a bunch made for about the same price as making just a couple. If enough people are interested I would be willing to do this, if not I will post a drawing of the peice and you can all use it if you wish. Let me know. BTW if there is enough interest I will include instructions and hopefully connectors so that it is not necessary to cut your factory wiring.

Makes lots of sense to me. BTW, we're looking at the top, so it uses all four mounting holes, right?

Put me down for one, but do it quick... I hope to have the new Micron high mount by week's end.

Here are the details:
Yes the current design uses all four of the factory mounting holes. I think I will change it so that the plate is not at a 90 degree angle to the mounting surface. This will make it harder to read, look smaller and less wind drag.

I think that the price will be somewhere around $25. It really all depends on how many I have made at a time. I will send it out to be quoted on Monday. I could have it black anodized which would match the frame, or clear. If you want to have it powder coated I will look into that. It might be a little tough to match the red and blue if we do it that way though.

How many people are interested in the directions and wiring harness?
Here is another angle.

Pegdrgr,

Your bracket should work, looks similiar to the one I made. I used 12 ga. aluminum, had it bent at a metal shop. Only difference in mine is that I had the seems welded. I then used L-P short stalk 4's, and used the factory license plate bracket robbed off of the factory fender. The factory bracket bolted to the rear lip of the fabricated piece, right where you have two holes illustrated. I used Light-n-boltz to mount the plate to the factory bracket and provide illumination. I then used trim black powdercoat to paint the whole thing. It looks incredible, tiny, and only cost about $40 for everything. I did cut the factory disconnects off and butt spliced them onto my bracket to make removal easy.

Actually, a 90 degree angle to the underside of the tail would probably be good, since the tail angles up at about a 20 degree angle. I'm not sure about the directions, since I have a high pipe coming, which might force me into flush mounts under the tail. I already ordered Light-n-boltz from cbrack.com, so I have the license plate light handled.

The kit looks great! The only thing you'll want to do before sending it to fab is to put a hole in the middle of the 4 mounting plate holes to run the wires though:confused: Then I think you'll pretty much have it covered.

I decided to do the LEDs in the tail light, so I've got kick-ass turn signals, all I need is a little bracket to hold the plate, and I don't expect any trouble with the license plate light issue. I don't think that's anything but a harrassment ticket (not to imply that they don't issue them sometimes...)

Rooster:
How exactly did you do the LED turn signals. I made a bracket like this one, but I am bored with it and have a new idea for my tag. Please supply pics and instructions on the LED turns.
