2002 R1 starting problem

My bike runs fine and doesn't have any problems, but when its cold it takes a while to start. Usually I have to hit the starter twice or else it just turns for a few seconds without starting. Anyone know what the problem could be? Also when I hold the starter the first time and let go i hear a short whining sound similar to when you first turn the key and it starts right after i hit the starter the second time.

Here's a video I took of the problem-

Thanks.

I can't get the video to play on my phone. Just throwing this out there but have u thought of the fuel pump. I have seen where the pump will lose pressure on startup shorting it fuel. Once started the pump continuously runs, so it runs fine. Try turning the key on & off several times before that cold start. Just a suggestion.

There should be a port on the fuel rail to check fuel pressure. Try turning the key on & off several times before start and see if that helps.

If u need pm me your number and ill call u.

If u have a gauge to check fuel pressure hook it up to the rail and turn on the key.

Then turn off key and the rail should hold the pressure with out dropping for a while.

I try not to replace anything unless its cheap or I know for sure it needs to be replaced.

Also be careful when pushing on that Schrader valve on the fuel rail, fuel will spray out meaning serious fire hazard if u r not careful.

I've got the same issue on my 03. It happened when i replaced my TPS sensor and ever since then I've had the issue. I think it has to do with the adjustment screw on the fuel rail. Also, there is a popping noise, might be backfiring, associated with it. I'm not trying to thread jack, just trying to diagnose the same issue as you. Is there a certain point for that screw to be set?

Apologies if this isn't the right thread but I have a 2000 R1 which I have rebuilt. It has been starting fine, the previous issue was a dead battery. However, I have now put the front bodywork on and the bike won't start. All that happens now is the starter relay clicks. I have tried another battery but still only clicks. I have tried a jump stater on the bike but when I attach it nothing happens at all, no clicks, nothing. Additionally the neutral light doesn't show after I attached the jump starter. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks
