Bike magazine has published some estimates of the (at wheel) hp for the 2004 line up...This is the first I have seen from any magazine...

R1 = 150bhp
ZX-10R = 148bhp
Fireblade = 144bhp

If these are correct, then all 4 Jap literbikes are close enough in power output that it's no longer a deciding factor. Now the power is there with any of the bikes, and the choice comes down to handling, ergos, and styling. (So the Suzuki and the Honda are out of the running on that last criterium alone.)

Then there's also the Aprilia, which finally has the styling to match its performance.

Should be interesting...

magazine estimates dont mean anything to me...once they come out and i see some dyno runs then ill start believing numbers.

Well no guesstimates required with the Gixxer 152rwhp:fact
Lets hope the above figures are true.:D

I have that magazine as well. They seam to know what they are talking about and take into consideration what various manufacturers claimed for past releases vs what they actually dynoed down at the wheel. Either way it doesn't really matter... the 04 Yami is still the sexiest ;)

I don't think that mag is correct. The R1 isn't going to lose 30 hp from crank to wheel. Its just not. I'm thinking it will be around 153-158 at the wheel. I also think the ZX10r will be around there too. I have heard that honda's new bike is really down on power compared to the other (thats just a rumor, but knowing honda it doesn't surprise me, they haven't turned out anything in the last couple years that really turned my crank)

The new honda is down on power because it uses a short stroke setup, unlike the proven more effective long stroke engine. But knowing honda, they will make up for this with amazing handling.

I was going to buy a 600rr so i could stay in the 600 class but i went for a 99 R1 that breaks the sound barrier

Honda makes great bikes
Yahmaha makes great bikes
Sasuki makes great bikes (mostly for stunters)
Kawaski... I'm sure you can ride those... can't you?

I miss the handling of the Honda... even if it was a 600
(yes i know 1000's r harder then 600's.. no need 2 yell)
i'm totally off topic now...

so that means that i will have to... say... stupid... stuff

I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum... and i'm all out of gum.

I hate silly or should I say 'ignorant' posts (ignorance is defined as not knowing)

Yamaha and Kawasaki both went the trouble of making their bikes the lightest and most powerful machines for the 2004 model year for one specific reason.

TO.. BEAT.. THE.. 2003 GSXR1000..

Dont think for a second that the 03' Gix which outputs 150 RWHP off the factory floor.. is gonna remain more powerful than either the 04 R1 or ZX-10..
