I'm seeking good suspension setup for the 04 (aggressive riding) for myself, full gear weighing 210-215 lbs.

I'm running the stock 218's.

Needing setup, and recommended tire pressure.

Thanks,

Mike

ACCORDING to June 2004 Sport Rider

FRT:
preload: 3 lines
Rebound: 7 out from full stiff
Compression: 9 out from full stiff
5mm showing above triple clamp

REAR:
Spring: 8
Rebound: 21 out from full stiff
Compression: 7 out from full stiff

suggest you use these mayhap as a starting point; adjust one at a time; use at own risk

WRITE DOWN STOCK SETTING BEFORE ADJUSTING.

Naw but somewhere I remember the testers are @ 185-210 in weight I weigh in at 236 and am pretty much stock on the settings. Wound up not to far from the settings in the mag.

'04 Suspension Set Up

Try this...

Front

Add 3 clicks rebound (7 out)
Compression and preload stock

Rear

Set the preload/spring to maximum (#9)
Add 7 clicks compression (5 out)
Rebound stock

You weigh more than me but this should be a good start for fast riding including track days.

MCR1 curious if you feel the spring on the rear could be replaced as it seems it has to be wound up all the way have contemplated getting a different one. ???????

Rear Spring Rate

Our Ohlins importer is expecting his first shipment of shocks for '04's within a matter of days and i'm at the top of his list. As I understand it the standard spring is 8.5kg and should be 9.5kg for hard riding/track use. According to AMCN magazine this was a comment made from a Yamaha technical adviser at the launch in Australia. The bottom line is they are still road bikes and need to be firmed up for track use.
