So i got the 07 r1 last month got the ecu replaced so no more lag....my 07 is dead stock and my 05 raven is dead stock....let me just tell you that in my experience the 05 raven will walk all over my 07 throughout the whole powerband...seriously what is the deal with the new r1...the low end power is not there at all and the throttle response is piss poor...I love my new bike but dang, I was hoping for a bit more out of it...I'm not giving up on it though....your thoughts?

Seriously though...are there any other guys out there that went from the 04-06 model to the new one that can agree with me? I'm not stirring the pot bro, maybe it's just the new ecu they fitted it with?

I own an 05, and I rode my friends 07 for a few hundred miles. I would rather keep my 05. If I had to get a new model, it would be another brand for sure. I am not impressed with the 07, and your right, the throttle response is piss poor. Even with the new ECU. Still no power below 7k. Im sure the 07 has a few more ponys on the top end, but its also heavier.

I have an 05 and I rode my buddies 07 about two weeks ago. We actually switched bikes for part of the ride. This is how we both felt about the trade, I told him to give me back my bike and he told me to ***** off. He loved my 05 because of the throttle response. And I have to agree with him on that one. I love my 05 but actually want to get an 07 or 08 for some reason......don't know why

I've owned an Aussie spec 05 and am now on the 07. Both ran Akropovic cat eminators and it made a HUGE difference to the throttle response and low down power. The 05 was great fun and went hard up top but I recon my 07 is heaps better. Much more power down low and really sings at the top end. Plus the 6 piston brakes and slipper clutch make it much more fun to ride. If any of you guys want more without spending a fortune then get the Akro Y-pipe I recon. It will flow heaps better than a gutted cat as it has nice smooth bends and joins. Other than that both bikes were bog stock, stock mufflers and no power commander or ECU mods. Ditching the cat woke both my bikes up bigtime but I'm wrapped with the 07.....

Don't get all butthurt just because he has an opinion on performance of a bike he owns. He has some valid concerns. You sound like a freakin Gixxer owner.

#19 ·
Either a couple guys I've never heard of before are here trolling or you guys need to lay off the crack. Maybe it's because you guys haven't realized you need to twist the throttle more on the 07 for the same response? I'm not sure but if you really think the 05 has more power through the RPM range you need a good :chair:

The other thing to remeber guys is that as design rules get tougher the designers have to change the bike more and more. The 07 and 05 power graphs look very similar but the 07 has lower emmissions in part to the dual cat converters and different ECU programing. It doesnt FEEL fast because the power comes on so much smoother but the real truth is that the peak power figures are very similar which is great considering all the BS emmsion laws around....:lol

high performance bike low performance rider! i still have the old ecu it suxs, but remember with the fly by wire it only opens the throttle 60% under 7k after that it goes 100%, say a little traction control, so just hit and hang on if you can keep the front down a little

hmmm, i dont know about most responses here. I had the chance to do some laps around phillip island track on my mates 07. I have an 04 R1 now. I cant really comment on the 07's down low grunt as i was over 7000rpm most of the time, and thats where it should be, anything below that and your cruising. But up top this thing had more balls than a snooker game:rock
Down the straight the 07 R1 is like majic, WOW. This thing just keeps pulling and pulling. The engine responce was amazing. So i dont know what your all complaining about.
This bike performs best when its going fast, its not made to go slow. Just my opinion:)

I appreciate all your responses...Maybe I'm just not used to the engine setup on my 07...like I said i wasn't giving up on the bike, just in my experiences the thing doesn't get it like my 05 raven...also the fly by wire thing def makes sense imma just keep it above 7k from now on :rock btw i'm not a complete tard:dundun:

I,ve tried my 07 in the quarter mile with 05 and 06 models, you cannot compare them with the 07. I passed the 06 three times for about 8 mitres every time we tried and I weigh 15kg more then the other driver. Maybe there is something different in the European model, less restriction could be...

A euro model will out power an American model because of the stricter emissions laws.

I find it funny that so many sheeple here with 07's refuse to agnowledge the short comings of the 07 bike, it is like they are in some sort of fraternity that they dare not be disloyal too

I said the Gixxer is a better bike and i stand by that in that it handles better and has more power than an R1. Now given these are superbikes those 2 issues are very important. As someone else already said the gixxers are butt ugly and that is the only reason i have an R1 in my garage and not a Gixxer.

My current bike is an 03 and that has more than i will ever be able to fully exploit so while the increase in power on the new bikes is very nice as bragging rights it isn't that important to the average street rider, but you can't help but think that Yamaha has not exactly taken a step forward with the 07 over the 06 by that i mean all the faults that has come to light on the 07 model. Yes the 08 will be the same spec bike as the 07 but hopefully it wont have all the flaws the 07 has. If it does i suspect the R1 will suffer in sales even more than it does now against a gixxer. You guys that have an 07 and say it is awesome while gritting your teeth are not doing anyone including yourself any favours. If any commercial company can turn out a product that is not as it should be but the customer is blindly loyal what are the chances the company will spend more on R&D to get the next model release right knowing they have loyal sales.

But Haga on on the R1 is ahead of Biaggi on a GSXR in the World Super Bikes. How can this be if the GSXR is so awesome??? :lol:lol:lol
Just because the the US got a bad batch of ECUs you can't go sledging Yamaha. They are trying things the other Japanes guys arent and you've got to give them credit for that. Plenty of guys have 07 R1s and love them as this forum demonstrates. It even won the 2007 masterbike Japanese bike class. And considering this is a test run by some of the worlds best motorcycle journos thats saying something. We're all here to express our opinion and its good to get everyones feed back so the manufactures can built better bikes in the future.... But right now I'm R1 loyal and I'm sure a majority of the guys here are aswell..Don't get me wrong I've ridden the 07 GSXR but I recon my 07 R1 rocks...:rock :riding :hammer:

It isn't just a case of a bad batch of ECU's, the rearsets are dangerous because they are breaking for no reason (do search here) there is some guy posting right now about how he can't see "chet" in his mirrors because they vibrate so badly now that is not just a nusiance it is dangerous.

I think the 07 is a great bike no question, but c'mon all these issues should have been sorted out in the R&D office not on the street after the customer has paid some strong money for his or her new toy, espeically if the issues are a danger. It just seems to me the 07 R1 is the bike equivelant of the Microsoft Windows in that it has been released to the public with a load of bugs still to be fixed, so 07 owners make sure you download the service pack for your bike :sing:

These bikes change so much as the years go by that maybe you have to change your riding style to get the same results. Of course the acceleration characteristics will feel different from the 05 to the 07. My 07 has great throttle response, I'm totally satisfied with it. Of course you could always sell the 07 and make a new owner really happy.....:)

#44 ·
I must admit I dont see how you can break rear sets unless your doing stand up wheelies but I guess I should read about it here before commenting. I like most guys and changing mine so wont have that problem I guess. As for vibrating mirrors when you find sportbike mirrors that dont vibrate let me know?? I dont like your chances though.. Personally I spend more time looking in front at whats going on rather than worrying about whos trying to catch up..:lol.. Most modern sports bikes are designed to win races with some compromses made for street use so maybe some guys need to keep that in mind before buying bikes like the R1 and worrying about little things like the mirrors..:lol. I agree the rearsets would be a major issue but Yamaha must be onto it otherwise you guys would have sold your R1s and gone elsewhere?????

I have an 07, 05, and 99. And guess what the 07 is way better.

I also have CBR1000RR, and GSXR 1000, and I think that the R1 is just the most fun all-around bike. And I dont have to worry about 1234245657345123412341234 people pulling up on the same exact bike :)

Plus, like our other thread the '08 is sweet!

22's NUGGA!
