Recently threw a rod in one of my two RN19s and I was wondering if I could get some insight. I have an entire r1 sitting in my garage excluding an engine and that stings for sure. I found a 2007 FZ1 engine on Craigslist for about $500 with ~20,000 miles on it and it is in pretty good condition. I was wondering since it is also a 4C8 engine. If the swap would be seamless. I always heard that the old fazers were "detuned", but what exactly does that consist of? Is it mostly electronic? Thanks for the help in advance.

its not the same crank and cams afaik.

N513 is a FZ1
N515/N516 is R1 engine code.

If it is still rebuildable I would bet on a rebuild with forged rods.

I see, I just dug through the parts diagrams foe both bike, looks like cams, pistons, rods and crank are all different. I have the cams for an R1 already and 3 cylinders worth of pistons and rods because I only threw one lol. The only thing I would need to rebuild it as such is the rod & bearings, cranks and a few other misc parts. You think it would be worth it to build this one? Or should I just find an actual R1 motor?

rebuild with forged rods, search for a reputable rebuilder in your area to hone and oversize it.
