i just sold my gsxr, it had a r77 slip on

here is how the 2x bikes compare,

the gsxr feels fast, accelerates fast, and has VERY easy power wheelies in 1st, 2nd, gears.... i mean EASY like a little past 1/4 turn and if your not ready that front is coming up.

the gsxr accelerates with aggression with even more of a top end punch around 11-12k like vtec just kicked in or a turbo.

it accelerates SO fast i rarely use anything more then 1/4 throttle around town.

the hydrualic slipper clutch is touchy, and does NOT peform as well as the yamaha r1 standard clutch

the yamaha wins in its gearbox movements and clutch action, its just that much better of a unit to shift then the gsxr

the yamaha crossplane motor looses out EVERYWHERE to the gsxr, low end, mid range and top end, not at anypoint was i "impressed" with the acceleration.....

suspension cant remark on it just yet, ive only had the r1 for 2x days and i havent taken it to the track JUST yet....

on the gsxr i could flat foot, this r1 i have to tippy toe, other then that both cockpits are pretty relaxed and forgiving

the gsxr mirrors are way more useful then the r1, i could actually just turn my head and check the mirrors, on the r1 i have to kinda tilt and turn my head to use them.....

the r1 revs soooooooooooo much faster, i am soo surprised to hit 10k in 1st gear on the street, ppl thinking the r1 has a tall first gear, go ride the gsxr, my gsxr did 106mph speedo indicated in 1st gear, i havent tried the r1 yet but i know ive been having to shift the r1 way more often then the gsxr...

finally the r1 feels like a 750cc jumping from the gsxr 1000, the throttle response is not as good (even though i have a full exhaust with a custom map) i kept on twisting my wrist waiting for more and more but its pretty slow feeling compared to my gsxr, it lags and hesistates till about 5k then starts to pickup steam, it also feels like it tapers off around 12k whereas the gsxr pulled HARD till you hit redline.

anyways, im still gonna ride the r1 for this year, maybe next year ill sell it and pickup a 2010 s1000rr or a 2011 zx10r

but honestly right now if somebody wanted to trade a 07-08 gsxr1k with equal mods i probably would do it, this R1 is just NOT as impressive as the gsxr was.

however it does sound fukn EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the ECU reflashed..
:boobies :fork

i would say this... if you're searching for that big gixxa motor powah straight line.. you're obviously looking in the wrong section of the supermarket..

take that beautiful crossplane out to the twisties... and get back to us.. :fact

in regards to requiring a new custom map... shoulda done some research prior to mapping..

for me, ECUnleashed & custom dyno map were all done back to back, by Nels, a couple hours appart...
I personally did not want to deal with the trial and error required by flash tune interface.. i had a big summer tour
planned two weeks after the re-flash... and at the time at least.. they did not offer nearly as many options as ecunleashed..
the removal of Dmodes by making them all the same seemed like a grade 5 fix... I personally love the option of switching to B or STD mode
when the weather goes to shit out there in the real world, or when you get stuck in traffic.. STD mode post re-flash is a total dream...
also, I was not about to spend hard earned cash to ship my ecu half way across n. america to have it hacked...

in regards to requiring a proper tune post-flash, I highly recommend you pick up an auto-tune unit, IT WORKS! period... you can resell once you perfect your mapping.. and it will
match your riding style & local riding area better than a dyno tune could... my .02

direct quote from link above,
09-2011 R1: 9.5rwhp gain. Removes the stock ecu closed loop tuning so you can run the dynojet auto tuner w/o having it fight the ECU. There is no need for the o2 optimizer/controller when you're ecu has been flashed and you should remove it. Enhances the fly by wire so you can reach full throttle. Removes the throttle restriction on US bikes above 12k rpm. Bike will start in A mode after the flash. A mode is the most powerful mode with everything done for max performance. Stnd mode still has more power then any other mode in stock form, but it is trimmed down from A mode a hair, tons of power but a bit more forgiving and very rideable. B mode is unchanged from stock and designed for "rain".
1st sentence tells you all... best endorsement out there...

in regards to B mode.. although it is technically unchanged from stock, coupled with all other options specially the greatly reduced engine braking it really comes to life. and is not nearly as much of a pain as it was from the factory... that is another reason I went with ECUnleashed.. flashtune did not offer raising of stock idle.. this is essential and a perfect match for the newly reduced engine braking... your mileage shoots up instantly..! corner speeds are greatly increased, specially in the tight twisties.. which is where this bike really shines..

i've ridden with gixxa road kings.. and they were always fighting wheelies mid-way through the corners... what a waste of good power.. i've been in the trenches with 'em and its obvious
they are working twice as hard as necessary, always working on body positioning into the corners all the while i'm making lunch.. and loving the good ol' yammi wobbles..

Honestly the linear power delivery is decieving you. I have a 09' R1 with full akrapovic and pcV with a base tune. My buddy has a 07' GSXR1000 with a slip on. We rode sunday and from a rolling start the R1 pulls about 2 bikes until 150mph an the gsxr just barely started to reel in. The R1 was able to carry move speed into the turns, in the turns and accelerated harder out of the turn. It just puts the power down effortlessly without gettng all bent out of shape.

Granted the GSXR does feel much faster do the the violent nature of acceleration as compared to the linear delivery of the R1. We switched bikes and both agreed and we were both faster on the R1

The '09 R1 has a slipper clutch. I can see how you would feel the R1 feels slower. If you've ridden a V-twin it's more similar to that than a traditional inline screamer. If you prefer that turbo feeling power the cross-plane is never going to do it for you.

i didn't feel like reading all this... so because i'm biased... 08gsxr thow-wow... lol

you guys may be onto something with the linear powerband and how it plays into our butt dynos

however the r1 is down on power, and i felt i had to wring the throttle ALOT more to get to use/feel/experience litrebike power, a giant change from the gsxr 1000, also the r1 is geared -1 with a custom map and full exhaust, i thought this thing would literally blow the doors off my 08 gsxr 1000, guess not.

we will see how it performs on the track,

im not biased with yamahas over suzukis, infact i started on a yamaha fz6 and have always wanted a R1 due to their looks,

if i reflash the ecu what does that actually do?

is it somewhat the same with suzukis, take the 5th or 6th gear map that doesnt have any timing retardation and force that map for all gears 1-6?

will that screw up the gear indicator?

in the suzuki world they would have TRE plug in modules that plug directly in and disabled the timing retardation in gears 1-4 ($70-100), is there something like this for the R1, or is the only way to get the ecu reflashed?

For one thing - The reflash removes the power drop at 12k that the US spec bikes got neutered with.

With flash tune interface you can reflash and load up a custom map if you already have one.

Not sure why you thought the crossplane r1 would be faster than your gsxr1k. For outright power the r1 has a bit less than everybody else.

gues they finally gave up on a good engine and just copied HONDA :hammer: :flex: :no :2bitchsla

btw,i own an 02 RSX type S.. i'm stil laughing at that comment as well.. :lol

incorrect... you will need a new custom map, or auto-tune.. re-flash changes the game -plan..
