Looking for advice. I've got a 2010 R1. Should i buy the $400 I do it all myself ECU flash kit or send it off? And which kit should I buy or shop should I send it to?

If you are planning to do more mods later or just like having the option to tinker with the tune at any time you wish it makes sense to buy the flashing kit. If you really want it to work the best use a auto tune system. Not sure which brand of tuner you had in mind but the ftecu kit is probably the best option for this. Next would be dynojet. Woolich racing has a way to autotune the bike however unlike the other two brands it does not continuously tune as you ride the bike. Much like how it does from the factory using 02 sensors. Woolich system is a tuning option. Basically you ride around with it active and the whole time it records all the engine data along with your speed etc. And when you get home you upload that data from its SD card and the software uses it to create a map for the bike. It works veey well. But the ftecu kit can do this on the fly as you ride. But its never a constant tune that you set up. I think it will stay in a window that you set for it. This us actually a better option because the tune needs to change with the weather and altitude etc.
And then you have the old tried and true dynojet option that is doing the same thing as ftecu. But it doesnt give you the option to flash the ecu and tinker with some if the settings such as turn off the exup servo motor adjust fan temperature control etc.
