No. :lol You need to get an aftermarket y-pipe (or gut the cats) to get rid of the heat. The cats are right next to your right leg, so it gets hot.

 

yep, that's exactly where I felt the heat was.

Although I'm an animal lover and I don't think I'd feel comfortable gutting any cat.

Is there another way?

 

They are all like this and the heat never goes away. I put a full exhaust on mine and ceramic coated the y pipe as well as heat taped it and I didn't even notice a difference in the heat so just something to live with. Still the undertail exhaust looks the best by far imo.

 

The catalytic converter. Gut the catalytic converter.

 

I don't know about the 2014, but getting rid of the cat on the 04 makes a big difference in heat. You don't have to gut it, just get rid of it.

For the Op, I'm not sure if dropping the cat reduces heat, because I haven't done it yet (waiting on reflash), though that is usually the result. There could be better options for heat shielding though. I'm going to replace the stock stuff with the DEI gold stuff when I install the mid-pipe.
I'll report back with the results once it's completed.

3/4 exhaust will help out a lot. The cat tends to retain a whole lot of heat. Flash the bike and program to turn fans on sooner.
