I have a 2024 r1 that blew up on me. I took it out one day and halfway point It was knocking like crazy. I had to push it a few miles to get service and get towed. I double checked there was oil in it, so not really sure what happened. I took it to the dealer where I bought it and they told me that I'm basically on the hook for an engine tear down/ rebuild until Yamaha either approves or denies the claim. Warranty expires in Sept 2025. They also asked for service records and since I've done the oil changes myself, all I have to show is one receipt that shows I bought oil and a filter. The service tech made it sound like its going to be a big fight and if denied he threw a number out of $4k labor+ parts. Has anybody ever dealt with Yamaha's warranty? Also any advice? Is this something I could maybe tackle myself?

That’s why when you do your own work on a warrantied ANYTHING, you need to keep reciepts and logs of what and when you did them.

I would at least have them tear it down. Maybe there is an issue from the factory in a batch of the units your bike was made. If it’s tuned and has a lot of work to it, you might be screwed. Your kind of in a rock and a hard place right now.

what’s the miliage and what’s done to the bike?

Ya i messed up there. I wrote it in the service manual but according to them, that doesn't count.

Sucks tho, I just don't want to get stuck owing a shit ton of money. Ive been reading forums and its kinda stressing me out lol

Literally just ecu flash and m4 exhaust. I don't want to give them the tune paperwork cuz it's another reason to blame it on me.

It was just around 6k miles when this happened.

ya the tune is what’s gona screw you over. Even if it goes back to stock they can see it. Have them rip the engine down and go from there. Maybe you’ll have a bad batch of set units. Gona be a hard one to argue though.

Throw a picture of them. If they were black black it’s rich. Usually lean is white color. When it’s lean The cylinder is getting to much air and running a lot hotter, usually burns holes in the pistons.

who did your flash?
and by chance is your air box not sealed and getting garbage in it?
