Trying to decide to get the mighty new gixxer or an R1. I am rather tall and would like to have some imput from the taller riders that ride a r1. Is it comfortable to ride for extended periods?

Has anyone raced the new gixxer. I am wondering if all the hype is true or not? I have had previous gixxers and r1s.

6'4 myself and ride an 04. Bags more room onboard than my previous 03.
I did 400 mile of fast riding twisties on saturday and if anything i had aching wrists because it was my first hard ride since october.
The setups excellent on the 04.
As for the K5, we seen one on saturday with R1 Eater written on its registration plate. We could see the rider had a sence of humour but that soon changed half an hour later after a coffee that he may have been a little complacent pmsl.
For what the gixers worth in my eyes now ive riden besides one and seen one on the road in the flash is that it looks quite attractive from the side and rear, then you see just how fruggin wide it is and just how enormously ZX7R like the tank is, and you may end up saying what we did and that was it looks fat and fruggin cheap.

Words of an 04 owner that nearly bought a K5 as a second bike only last month. Glad i didnt to be honest.

I have 05 R1, and the only problems I have had so far is my right hand sometimes gets numb. Hopefully the Throttlemiesters I am ordering will take care of that. Do any of you know cheaper place to buy them besides there website.

Im 6'7" tall and weigh 300 pounds. I have been able to fit comforatably on every R1 ever made since it started production. I have never been able to fit on a gsxr that did not have at least 3 inch rearset pegs. My knees hit the crown on the tank and point my toes out making it a knee breaker to try to use the pedals. And then it is still not quite right. Go with the R1

6'5" 220 here, i too have had all varaints of the one, regularly ride 200-250 mile stints, bike fits great [ the newer model the better ] sometimes i feel clumsy and "on top" of the bike for the first 15-20 miles, but my body soon moulds into shape and i can concentrate on my riding.....never happened when i test rode the K5...sweet bike though.

im 6'5, 220, and my bike fits PERFECT. even if you dont feel comfy with your legs, you can swap out the rearsets for something adjustable. the only complaint i have is there is no pocket for us big guys at high speed, wind in your face even with the double bubble. then again thats pretty much every bike
