A '98 4XV in England - personality change...

I'm based on the south coast of England and this is my bike: it's a '98 4XV with:

Ohlins rear shock, Ohlins fork internals, Ohlins steering damper in a Harris bracket, Harris rearsets, Micron can on a Harris bracket, Stage 1 DynoJet tune, K&N filter, R&G crash bobbins and maybe some other stuff I can't remember.

The bike used to be a V&M race-rep (see picture) but then in mid January I slid it down the road in a bizarre accident. Basically I had to hop it up onto the grass verge to avoid hitting an old guy in a mobility scooter who was headed straight for me! This destroyed the plastics, and the bike was looking tired anyway - and the cost of renewing the V&M paint job was way too much - so I decided it was time for a change and a tidy-up. I got a secondhand body kit in the original '98 blue trim, a new can, standard levers and other stuff: I like the look now. I have some silver wheels for it, but they haven't made it onto the bike yet because I want to use up the tires first...

It's a very sweet handling, rapid bike. It'll be seeing some track time again this year, but it gets used on the road a lot too.

I don't know - it was on the bike when I got it, and I haven't been able to find out where it came from or who made it. I think it might be a modified part originally made for a different bike - it's a good idea, and saved my clutch cover once. I'm planning to make a replacement slider part to bolt onto the mounting plate, using ABS plastic.
