I just signed up for an advanced street riders school here in Ohio. I have never taken My bike on the track before, so this is going to be new to Me. I see all of You guys doing track days and I just couldn't sit by and watch all of You have all the fun, so I signed up. It's a one day class and it allows You to ride on the open track days at Nelson Ledges(10 times) and Mid-Ohio(2 times) for the year. I'm going on June 1st. Can't hardly wait !! This is gonna be cool :rock Here is a link to the Fasttrax page if anybody in Ohio is interested

WARNING: Riding on the street will never be the same!! :thumbup :thumbup It will put all other addictions to shame. ;)

My friends who raced at Nelson Ledges gave it high marks. I attended two track school days at Mid-Ohio last year and had a blast! :thumbup

ChampionR1, you'll have to tell us what you thought of it afterwards.

track schools

You will have a great time, and come to appreciate just how good the R-1 is;) Just work your way up to speed comfortably, and remember that you don't have to outdrag every guy on a 600 you see, just cause 'you're on a litre bike. That can cause big problems if the guys a faster and more experienced rider;)
I had a Dr. buddy I ride with that used to do EVERYBODIES advanced 3 day $2500 schools. While this obviously helped his riding skills, I was able to convince him that for the amount of $$ he was shelling out, that Club racing in OMRRA would advance his skills more quickly than any " advanced " anything class would. It's turned out great, he was the first guy to put my kid on a rracer, and after that initial shock:eek: ( how FAST Jonah was right off ), Dave settled down and 2 years later is the class champion  ( 450 ss with a couple of FZR-400's )
Even instructing at what would NOT even be close to competetive class laptimes, the R-1 is a real kick, but remember................. this is your streetride;)
When you are racing, whatever you bring to the track, you have to be willing to walk away from it, 'cause shit happens:p Have fun:thumbup

Thanks for the advice Olddog !! I only paid 175 bucks. Its a one day class. The reason I am going to take it is so I can ride on the open track days. The school says that My bike will be covered under My insurance because it is not a "racing school". Here is the info check it out see what You think. :thumbup

ChampionR1,
It has been about 2 years since I have been to Nelson and although the facilites are not all that great, I have heard that they have repaved sections and the surface is pretty good.

With that said I have raced there many time and love that track. I used to live in Western NY and for me it was the closest track at just under 4 hours drive time so I got there often for both track days and wera events.

As MikeB stated, the street will never be the same after getting out there and you will love it. It's a good group of guys that run the fasttrax school and events. Enjoy the time, and I have already sampled the soil for you in turn 1 so no need to test it further

a little superstition

You might find this amusing;) If you are racing and show up with new kit ( leathers, gloves, you look MARVELOUS  ) most racers will walk the track, get to the dirt outside a turn, and rub some into their Virgin , pretty leathers;) Yeah, yeah, it's stupid and superstitious.......................... but most guys do it:p Have fun

I was at NL two summers ago, and I would not recommend this track. The track was horrendus, about 20 different kinds of pavement. They day before they had a scca car race there and a car blew a motor around turn 1. The oil was not cleaned up by the next day, so we were riding around the slick, and spitting kitty litter all day. I have some more horror stories about the place.

If they repaved, that's one step in the right direction. If it's under new management, I'd consider going back..

Have a look at Cayuga in Canada. Not a very big track, no elevation change, but track days are $75, and the pavement is fresh.
