Any thought on the new BMW?

Just wondering if any of you had any thought on the upcoming 2010 BMW S 1000 RR? I think they list it at 193HP and 405lbs with race-spec ABS. Ought to bring some interesting competition to the GP circuit and at the same price as the R1 and other liter-bikes.

I see this coming in at about 15K. I did hear that it was suppose to be priced within 10% of the liter-bikes but I just cant see it less than 15K. Next hope you have money if this thing goes down as it will be massive amounts of money for part.

That aside the bike is a total beast I was reading about it yesterday and the amount of technology on the bike is just insane. That is a bike that I could test ride as we have a BMW motorcycle dealership that will let you ride anything you have. Don't know if that is a good thing as I know if I ride it I will want it.

its been racing the WSBK with Troy Corser and Rueben Xaus. Doing well for a new bike.

I'm definitely interested and if it can be similarly priced to the jap liter bikes even better.

I read they were trying to get it as close to 13K as possible, but it may very well come in around the 15K mark. I do like the styling on it though, reminds me of a cross between an R1 and a CBR from the front (minus the headlights). I believe it's the first real "sport bike" BMW has made, and since it's an 2010 model, it will just now start to get into the MotoGP series. I'm sure if the riders can rack up some podium finishes, a lot more people will take note of the BMW race team.

At 13K it might be tempting. Funny thing is every time I ponder getting a new bike and putting up big money I know something better or something that sparks my interest will come out and given that I am so cheap I cant see taking big hits on getting rid of a new bike in a year or two. That is why I stick with used bikes. I am very good at finding great deals and I can ride something then sell when I am bored and make a few buck at the same time.

As long as I do that my wife is ok with my bike addiction.

I don't like the appearance.

And the front lights do nothing for me.

Gross...it reminds me of Sloth with the way the lights are layed out...

if i had the extra money, i wouldnt mind picking it up (but i would rather get a hypermotard). i dont like the gills on the side fairing though

I agree that the front end is not really that appealing. I would like to see one in person though. A lot of people also hated on the 09 R1 at first in the pictures and in person its a MUCH better looking bike- to me at least. I too heard that they are trying to stay within 10-12% of the other liter bikes, and with what it is "supposed" to have will make it a really great bike for the money. I would definately like to ride one to see if I would want to get rid of my R1 for a BMW.

just the cock eye alone would preclude me from buying it, never mind the technology i call it fugly.

455lbs wet with ABS, 450lbs without. It's really interesting that they are using the throttle by wire and variable intake stacks also. One difference seems to be the variable stacks don't just open or close, seems they have a "middle of the road" opening setting also. It all depends on rpm. We'll see how it goes.

I'd definitely consider one. I'd like to see one in person, and read more about the features. If everything were comparable to a jap bike, I'd think about it.

Definite maybe.
