Just wondering when I stopped to fill up today what gas everyone prefers and have found to run better in the R1 or which ones to stay away from.

I've heard Citgo sucks.

It's amazing how gasoline fuels are transported across the country, from the refinery to the retail station.

Usually by truck from refinery to a distribution point where it enters a spiders network of pipelines & distribution switching stations on to it's final distributing center & finally by truck to a retail station. But just because Chevron entered fuel into the system @ Long Beach & needs fuel to get to Kansas City, does not mean the the fuel they entered will end up in Kansas City.
Gas moves through various brokers & pipeline providers - this is how it works, roughly...

Monday Chevron enters X amount of fuel @ point A in the pipeline - California...
Monday Chevron extracts X amount of fuel @ point B in the pipeline - Kansas...
The fuel they are getting in KC may have actually originated from Citgo.

Once they have the fuel they add they're special additives to meet various state laws & they're own blending (some would say marketing, see many consumer tests)
I have a vehicle with over 200K on the clock that I have always bought the cheapest, lowest grade gas I was able to find. Not a single mechanical problem to date, knock on wood.

Now, I will contradict myself!!!
All my bikes get premium.
Sorry.:finger

how come everyone is using such high octane?? you'll get more power choosing the lowest octane that keeps you above your knock point as gsxcorey mentioned
More power you say Nick??? Do you have any proof of this? Hmmm... I guess this will have to one of our topics on Saturday. 04-05 R1s need 91 octane as required from Yamaha. Now, before you say anything... I know I could probably get away with 87 or 89 octane, but I like wasting my money at the pump. :D

Citgo gas is the only fuel only from North America. All others come from abroad and most likey The middle east, North Sea, South America etc...

Is there a big problem with the R1 NOT having enough power??:D

Is Mobile any good? I usually stop there because it's on my way home but I'm definatly gonna try Suncos' 94.

Mobil, Sunoco, and Amoco (now BP around my house) are my top three stations that I frequent.

go read up on octane. if you are searching for the highest octane you're rather ignorant about octane ratings and gas. do a search here even. higher octane is less hp once past a certain point. normally the point is BELOW what a company recommends. they do this to be safe and run a conservative octane. you would need to go to a dyno to find your most hp, but there is little need to run higher than what the company recommends. going in search of the highest octane is actually incredibly retarded. if you want high octane i'll sell you higher octane then race fulel for only 2 dollars a gallon plus shipping. you can get this tested anywhere and check it's octane also...it's incredibly high!

hate to say it, but read up people! octane=how well it fights pre-ignition...not how fast it burns, but the opposite!
