So i never see these bikes around at all. Im getting one here in a few weeks I have seen one in my town period and that is an R6. My r1 is an 03 Black with the red flames. Is this a limited edition bike color? Is there anything special about this bike Id love to see some pics. Even if you want to email me pics of your bikes and list your mods that would be cool too.

I have one, I broke my leg on my MX bike and I am modding the hell out of my R1 right now. Here is what I am adding:

Graves slide stops, stacks, and intake cam. Milling the head and a valve job.
Ohlins rear shock, Graves linkage, race tech gold valves and stiffer fork springs.
Marchesini forged mag wheels, ABM rotors, 520 chain kit.

I will post up some pics when its all done! I don't see a lot of these around my town either, there is an R6 but I don't know anyone else with the black/red R1.

I don't know that it is truly a limited edition, and this seems to spark some debate in the forum, apparently thousands were made in this color scheme and some forum members insist that there is nothing LE about it, however it was marketed at dealerships as a Limited Edition color scheme. As soon as I saw it for the first time I fell in love. I may get another bike in the future but I will never sell mine.

Im getting mines for about the same price as your bud (hellion850). I was confused about the LE thing because i no there were some yellow with the black graphics there were LE as well. I dont see many of either around much.

Is there anything else special about having an LE bike aside from the paint scheme.

I don't know why people call this bike an LE. The only LE's were the '01 Champs Edition and the '06 retro black/yellow with the Ohlins suspension. Both of these bikes have the number plate indicating what number out of 500 it is. The '03 black flamer does not. There is nothing limited about the '03 black flame R1. It did cost and extra $100 for the cool paint, but I settled for the liquid sliver.

There are no other differences besides the color. It's still an amazing color, people love it everywhere I go. Maybe if I get a new bike one day I will paint it to match!

What Skeeter said... and for the record this is a total ongoing subject.

Nothing "Limited Edition" about the Flame paint job. It was just a different paint job that cost more than the blue or silver paint.

Anyways... here's mine...:rock

Nice mods, I am doing some similar stuff to mine right now. Would you mind telling me how much you milled the head? And what you used for cam timing? I angle milled mine .015in and .020ex. I haven't decided what I am going to use for cam timing yet, I should have the head back from the machine shop tomorrow and I will put it together this weekend. How much HP did you get?

Maybe not as pretty as the new R1, but still much better looking than any other!
