Hey guys,

I blew the #1 spark plug out of the head on my bike. What should I do? Just get it machined and leave it stock? Port and Polish? Cams? What are my options? I feel like I might as well do some performance work while I have it apart to fix the missing threads. Also, what is the best way to fix that? Helicoil? Threaded insert?

Lemme know what you guys think

any good car head machine shop will insert the plug hole for you.
why did it do it? did you strip the threads or something?

You can send it off for a pro port and polish. I know a guy who does great work at a great price. His heads are used by the guys on the salt flats and 2 major motorcycle rebuild shops send them to him to do. His heads outperformed the big guys so they just use him now.

www.porttechheads.com

New website that's not complete yet but I'll vouch for him. He built a strong R6 motor for me that's been running track days since 2009.

He's on facebook too if you' like to see his work.

i see you're out of san clemente. since i lived there for over 2 years. i would recommend going and seeing the tech out of the dana point shop for motor build advice man. it's who i took my r1 to for 2 seasons of track day advice. the dude knows his shop and runs it despite being a dealer and he'll point you in the right direction. if you're wiling to wait, send your shit to rueben at 35 motorsports just outside of indy and he'll do you up right. he builds ama motors and have been racing on the side for literally decades :fact i'm sending my bike down to him within the next 2 weeks.

I added up all my reciepts, it cost me just over $400, including all fluids. I can imagine that it would have been close to $2500 if I took it to a shop. I am VERY glad I didnt have to do that. I def wouldnt have it fixed for a while.
Not only is the savings worth it, the feel of accomplishment is awesome. For that reason alone I love working on my own stuff.
