I havent posted here before so firstly hello to everyone.
A year ago I bought my current 2009 R1 as a road bike but got on with it so well that I decided to convert it to a decent track bike.
Six months down the line and that relationship is still blossoming :)
Now the story really starts......
I am that "in love" with the bike I have decided to build a Factory Superbike replica but with a stock motor.
The plan is to fit a Fabtech under-seat tank and carbon fibre factory replica bodywork.
I have sourced the tank and the factory bodywork is currently being manufactured.
I just thought this would be an interesting project to share with you guys, headaches and all.
My bikes current spec is:
  • Ohlins 30mm cartridge kit.
  • Ohlins TTX shock
  • BST wheels
  • Bazzaz fuel/traction/QS
  • Quick action throttle
  • GPR damper
  • Renthal clipons
  • Brembo master cylinder
  • Brembo HPK discs
  • Lightec rearsets
  • Akra full system
The installation of the under-seat tank requires a self-supporting seat/subframe unit, which I have just taken delivery of, and the relocation of everything from under the seat to the area just behind the air-box.
The seat/subframe is the nicest bit of kit I have ever put my eyes on....
I am wetting myself in anticipation of the bodywork!!
Let me know if this project is of interest to you as it will take some documenting.

The stock motor is just about enough for me at the minute.
Just moved up from a 151bhp GSXR 750 so the extra horses and torque feel adequate.
I was at Brno a couple of weeks back and for the first time in 6 months of riding the R1 I actually thought a little more power would be sweet.
Bloody S1000's make most bikes look slow!!!
That said I am looking at buying a Phase One endurance R1 with a gas flowed head, kit valves, kit cams and kit head gasket which is allegedly making close to 190bhp.
I am seriously thinking about using Phase One bike as the recipient for all of the carbon loveliness.
The beauty of a stock motor is that they dont need to refreshed as often.
I had a supersport 675 which made 140bhp and required a refresh every 1,200 miles at ÂŁ2400 a pop. Made for expensive riding.
Bottom line is I am not making a living out of riding, just enjoying it

Hells yes!!!!
Wait til Steve sees this thread. He'll be on it like a fly on stink. I'd love to end up with something similar. My list for completion includes a FTR swinger, DD Moto carbon monocoque tail and a full set of 666 WSBK bodywork. It will take a few years to accomplish all that. I'd like to get the motor massaged a little too but nothing so drastic it decreases reliability. Can't wait to see your progress. You should check out 'Canes' build.

Well this is a better reception than I anticipated.
Now I know that I am amongst similarly minded people you might as well have a look at the subframe from all angles....... Yeah work it baby, the camera loves you :)

I hope you are right. Checa seems to be doing alright on that "satellite" ducati.
Only problem is that there are only two R1s on the grid so a full get out would not affect the running that much.
Can only assume yamaha's financial situation is to blame, bottom line is WSBK sells motorbikes and getting out makes no sense.
I'll miss those fugly R1's (and Melandri's missus)

Hey Simon. Welcome to the forum and an awesome start to what will definitely be an amazing machine. I know Nick very well and his stuff is the best. I also got to talk some with Mark at Phase one, (great guy also) that is a steal on that R1 they have. Are you planning on buying the bike then parting what you don't need. It would be a very good investment for what it already has on it.

Sorry for chiming in so late. I was just now able to get on the PC at work. This is a great thread and everyone and their dog...er...uh...cat :crash was sending me a link to find it.

Marcaztls is a good contact to have, and if you need any more, PM me and I might know of a few more guys that can help you out.

Holy smoke it's a small world.
Thanks for the kind offer of support which I will no doubt need at some point.
Luckily I also have a good friend in the Swan Yamaha BSB team who should be useful when I get stuck. Those guys are running last years WSBK R1s too :)
I will update the post as the parts arrive to keep it interesting, it's nice to see the momentum the thread has gained already.
